Source code for default factory image

Former Member

Is the source code for the factory installed image on the microZED available as a single bundle anywhere?  Or do I need to recreate the various images from scratch (with the help of a lot of intuition)?

On a related note, does anybody know how much of the course material from the August 2012 Zedboard Speedway course applies to the microZED?

Thanks.

Factory Image -- This is included as part of the tutorial Open Source Linux In System QSPI Programming Tutorial posted at http://www.microzed.org/design/1519.

2012 Zynq Speedway - Since both ZedBoard and MicroZed use Zynq, the material applies, although the lab instructions are specific to ZedBoard. Also, that Speedway was based on 14.2, and we are currently shipping MicroZed with 2013.2 Vivado.

    but...
When I click on the link in your reply, I get a blank page :-(

The tutorial you reference (which can be found by navigating to the Reference Designs/Tutorials" section of the web site), contains well written instructions for reinstalling the factory image.  This is great.

But what I _really_ wanted to know was: Where can I get the source code for that factory image?  That is, where can I get the source code for bit stream, root file system, etc...?

Or equivalently, are the instructions for generating these images from scratch available anywhere?  Are they the same images we generated when I took the Speedway course?  Or are they different?  (I don't have my microZED yet, so I can't answer this myself).

Finally, on a completely different note -- is there any way I can get email notifications when somebody responds to this thread so that 2 weeks don't go by before I notice that there was a response?

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry -- it looks like our web structure slightly changed, so the new link to go straight to the Tutorials page now is http://www.zedboard.org/design/1519/10.

I will check on the source code. The current Tutorials 01-04 are a good starting point, but it will not get you to building Linux. The Online Speedway for Linux will do that, but that is based on ZedBoard and 14.2.  Someone will post again with more details.

Have you had any luck tracking down the source code for the factory image shipped on the microZed's yet?  I'm due to get mine tomorrow and I would really like to have a working baseline system on which I can build my application.

Can I assume the Zedboard tutorials will just work?

In the absence of any other information, I'm going to have to cross my fingers and just hope that the Zedboard implementation works the same.

    Thanks.

We also could not find the source to generate u-boot.bin for microzed and had to create configuration ourselves. u-boot-xlnx only has Zedboard, but not Microzed. Configuration is similar, but not exactly the same.

The lack of the u-boot source (only the binary is provided) raises the question of compliance to the GNU GPLv2 license for u-boot, generic u-boot or u-boot-xlnx is not sufficient to build the binary.
