Can't initialize JTAG chain with FMC XM105 connected to Zedboard

Hi,

I'm seeking for a solution in order to download bitfile to FPGA using JTAG, while FMC XM105 card is connected to Zedboard.

Datasheet of Zedboard says it's impossible to download bitfile while FMC card is connected, because of FMC-PRSNT signal.

Thanks for the help,

    Hello Danna,

I am not sure what 'datasheet' for the ZedBoard you are referring to or why it would say it is impossible to download a bitfile while an FMC card is connected.

When an FMC card is plugged into the ZedBoard the FMC-PRSNT signal does cause the ZedBoard JTAG logic to include the FMC card in the JTAG chain as discussed in section 2.10.1 of the ZedBoard HW Users Guide:

     http://zedboard.org/sites/default/files/documentations/ZedBoard_HW_UG_v2_2.pdf

With the FMC card installed you will need to either add a description of the FMC card JTAG device (a BSDL file) so that the program driving the JTAG chain, Vivado or the SDK in the case, understands the registers added to the chain by the additional device, or bypass the JTAG connection on your FMC board. In the case of the XM105 you can do that by placing a jumper across the TDI/TDO pins (6 and 7) of the JTAG header J5 in order to loop the JTAG signal back to the ZedBoard JTAG chain.

    -Gary

    Hi,

I have the same problem and it is solved by placing a jumper between TDI and TDO on the XM105.

    Thanks
