MicroZed problem: ubuntu_core 14.04 + PS + PL

Hi all,

Iu00B4m currently working towards been able to command PL from an Ubuntu/CentOs distro. Letu00B4s get focused in Ubuntu core 14.04.

I have run Petalinux 14.2 successfully. However, Petalinux is way too simple for ours needs. Following the instructions from either:

didnu00B4t produce any success on microZed, with all tools set to 14.2 version. The best result showed a functional ubuntu core 14.04 distribution with no ethernet capability at all.

I would like to ask if there are some stories of success while trying to bring Ubuntu/CentOs to life in miroZed. Any other documentation which can be helpful?

    On this Reference Designs page for the Display Kit, there is a "Display Panel Ubuntu Tutorial for MicroZed I/O Carrier Card" which has ISE 14.4 instructions for getting Ubuntu up and running on MicroZed:

    I am fairly certain that PS Ethernet was functioning on this platform since we downloaded several software updates so that we could build open CV for a machine vision demo using MicroZed I/O Carrier.

    Also, if you take a look at the ZedBoard Reference Designs page there is a "Ubuntu Desktop Linux" tutorial which is fairly detailed walk-through of getting Ubuntu desktop up and running on Zynq.

    Though the instructions target ZedBoard, the concepts should remain similar for MicroZed.

    Hi Kevin,

    I will give it a read, however there's no other way than moving back to such old enviroments?

    With regard to ZedBoard link I think that I have already read that document. It relies on ADI git tree, not xilinx one, which is quite strange for microzed.

    In any case, do you know if there's some kind of info about success stories with Petalinux 14.2 + Vivado 14.2 (which are the latest version with support in your website) + custom PL + ethernet?

    Hi Carlos,

    The intent behind the older versions is only to provide a known good starting point for you to validate that it works with your hardware.  Once you know that the solution works on your platform, you then have a point from which you can start migrating to the newer tool versions.

    Yes, that tutorial does rely upon the ADI git tree but only because we are using their HDL to interface to the ADV7511 HDMI transmitter on ZedBoard.  Once again, it is a starting point but there are a lot of details in there that can help you with setting up your microSD card with the EXT4 partition containing the Ubuntu rootfs.

    The other tutorial I mentioned for the display kit uses the Xilinx Linux kernel repository rather than the ADI one.
