Removing xillybus core from xillinux problems with VGA

Hi,
    I have tried to remove the Xillybus IP core from Xillinux
(so I can just use Xillybus_lite). Everything seems to be OK apart from the output on VGA is very poor. I think xillinux is defaulting to settings for an unknown graphics card. I still have xillyvga included. Does something about the graphics driver need the xillybus core. Is there an alternative graphics core I could use?

    Hello,

    The VGA output is based upon plain resistors creating the analog output signals, and therefore supports only 16 levels of brightness for each color (as opposed to at least 256 on a regular VGA chip). I suppose what you call "very poor" is the visible quantization effect on the screen. Anyhow, this is as good as the hardware can support for the VGA output.

    There is an HDMI output, which is not supported as of yet (and there hasn't been any demand for it, as a matter of fact). If you need a better video image quality, this is the path to take.

    This way or another, removing the Xillybus IP core has no effect on the VGA quality. Your system is most likely OK.
