Control Core voltage of Ultrazed Zynq ?

Hi,

I would like to adjust the core voltage of PL marginally, within the recommended range. can someone suggest me how to change it? I think PMBUS header (J10) is the one i need look into. But I don't find information on what dongle and software I need to use ? Can someone shed some light?

    We don't recommand altering any of the Zynq MPSoC voltage rails. What is the reason for changing the PL core voltage?

    We are doing some analysis on our product depending by   varying temperature and voltage. As per the Ultrascale+ DC/AC specs of Xilinx, it is ok to change the Vint within the recommended range (+-2.5 %).

    Hello Gouthamp,

    We do not recommend altering any of the MPSoC voltage rails. Any attempt to change the MPSoC voltage rails will void your warranty. If you insist on going foward with this, you will need to contact Infineon to get the PMBus dongle and programming software.

    I am aware I have marked Josh's previous post as solution. But still got a quick question in this regard. I understand we will loose our board warranty if anything happens to it while changing voltage rails values. Still we need to proceed with our measurements by taking risk. 

    I have received PMBus dongle and downloaded Infienon's software . Tried connecting it to board and read PMBus address and values in the software and it seems like software is not detecing any active PMBUs in it (though it just detects the dongle as a hardware).

    I do see from Ultrazed document "AES-ZU3EGES-1-SOM-G-user-guide-v1.pdf" that I need to connect JP2 and JP3 to get connection to SDA and SCL bus of PMBus (I2c). In my case, I connected JP2 as it was not connected by default in OOB. When I checked JP3 (in SoM board), it is already connected. Is there any other jumper settings I need to change so that my dongle can read PMBus values and show in software ?

    This might be a infienon question . Stil I thought questions on hardware/jumper settings can be put here.

    Hello Goutham,

    If you disconnect the jumpers from the SOM and plug into the header on the carrier card, you will gain access to the PMBUS via the Infineon dongle.

    If you want access to the PMBUS from the Zynq, you would connect the jumpers on the SOM and not use the header on the Carrier Card.

    To configure the PMIC via the Carrier Card, you need the following:

    1)      An I2C dongle (we use Infineon’s USB005, Rev 1.0) dongle.

    2)      Infineon’s PowIR software. This is a free download after becoming a registered member on Infineon’s website. They will send a temporary license to the customer.

    You will have to be versed in the use of the PowIR software or the register set's of the PMIC. PowIR is a great GUI for your to use for tasks such as this, and it generates the necessary register updates as well the programming file.

    Also please make sure you validate any changes you plan to make as there is a limited number of burn cycles on the PMBus.

    Hi Josh,

    I am using the same dongle and software. Just one more question in this . When you referred to disconnect jumpers from SOM and plug into header on carrier card, which jumper in SoM are you referring to ? JP3? if so, where to plug that in Carrier card? Sorry, not clear with that.

    Hi Josh,

     

    My current setup is like this : JP2 in carrier card is connected. JP3 in SoM is disconnected. USB-005 is the dongle. IRPowIRCenter is the software. Monitoring chip is Rocky-5 output PMIC- IRPS5401. Running software in administrator mode.

    Does this sound like the right environment?

    Sorry, I got what you mean ..If I am right , you were talking about both disconnecting JP2 and JP3 on SoM isnt? ok, I tried that too. and connected USB-005 to J10 of carrier card, and tried to monitor using IRPowIR. Still not working. Anything more to do?

    Hi Gouthamp,

    Sorry about that, yes i meant you must remove JP2 and JP3 shunts on the SOM.

    Here is what you need to do with the dongle.

    You will attach to J10,see image below. Brown wire goes to GND on the header. The red is SDA and the orange is SCL. When you get a complete connection, you then have to scan for the device in the PowIR tool. You needs to connect to a non-USB 3.0 port. The USB005 doesn’t work on 3.0 ports (denoted with a blue connector and/or the port saying “SS” for Super Speed). For assistance with the PowerIR tool, I recommend you go to the Infineon forum’s or contact your local FAE as it is well beyond our scope of assistance.

    Hi Josh,

     

    I am doing exactly the same . Removed JP2 and JP3 from SoM. connecting to USB 2.0 port. Running software in administrator mode. Connecting J10 headers exactly the way you said. Scanning and still not finding. 

    I have contacted Infineon's FAE and hope to get a response soon. 

    I can also explore the possibilites of talking to PMBus from Zynq . Does it need specific drivers in Zynq? How does that work, if I connect JP2 and JP3 in SoM?
