Vivado 2014.1 and MicroZed board awareness files.

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I just installed new Vivado 2014.1 and found that board awareness files for MicroZed 7020 and 7010 doesn't work anymore.

Could anybody confirm a problem please. And I'm obviously looking for solution.

The MicroZed 7010 board is included as one of the Board Options in the "Default Part" dialog as part of the 'Create New Project' process in Vivado 2014.1 (and Vivado 2013.3 and 2013.4 as well). So if you are using the MicroZed 7010 you no longer need to use the board awareness files. The rev e MicroZed option will work for the rev C and rev F MicroZed boards as well.

For MicroZed 7020 users I will look into getting updated board awareness files.

I don't think it will be that difficult. I need to get hold of a 7020 MicroZed to verify, but I think you should be able to select the 7010 MicroZed in Vivado and then just manually change the device from 7010 to 7020. The package, pinout, and peripherals all remain the same. You do get a couple more I/O banks on the microheaders, but I don't think there is anything relating to those in the board awareness files anyway.

If you get a chance to try it before I do let us know it goes.

I already copied and changed/uppdated 2014.1 config for 7010 to 7020, regenerated bitstream and tested. Seems to work fine.

I didn't look into board awareness files before and didn't realized they are quite simple.

Hi, I have upgraded today to 2014.1 and have updated all the cores with the ip status. But now my project that worked fine, stopped working. The processing systems GPIO and SPI I can not control anymore, but the AXI GPIO I can still control. Have anyone came across this problem? Do you think that it might have anything to do with these board definition files? For now I will have to revert back to 2013.4 sadly.

The MicroZed Documentation page now contains an archive for installing a Board Definition archive for your Vivado 2014.1 installation. This includes definitions for Rev F MicroZed 7010 and MicroZed 7020. These definitions are also valid for Revs B and C. We'll be updating the MicroZed tutorials to make use of these definitions soon.

We found a minor bug in Vivado 2014.1. If you were using the init.tcl file to initialize the RepoPath, synthesize will error out. I have updated the instructions to remove the usage of init.tcl. You can still use a local repository, but you must manually enter the TCL command each time you launch Vivado.

    Hi there.

Due to this issue : http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/63036.html and the corresponding , I had to install Vivado 2015.1 to continue the work on my design with a correct SDK compatibility.
What about 2015.1 MicroZed board awareness ?

Will i be forced to install the 2014.4 patch instead of using 2015.1 because of the uncompatibility with the MicroZed board?

Thanks in advance for your reply,

    PA.

We have posted Vivado 2015.1 board definition files for the MicroZed 7010 and 7020. They have only been tested with the 'install in Vivado installation' method and not the 'repo' method.

    Hi Gary,
I've upgraded to Vivado 2015.1 and would like to use the MicroZed 7010 board definition files.

You mentioned 2 methods for integrating these files into Vivado 2015.1. One method you called the "install in Vivado installation" method and the other you called the "repo" method.

I have no idea what either of these methods are.

Would you please refer me to documentation on installing the board definition files for Vivado 2015.1?

    Cheers,
    David
