Petalinux: Including U-Boot's "fw_printenv" tool in project rootfs

I realize this is a petalinux issue -- and more a Xilinx issue - but I'm hoping someone has figured this out already...

Xilinx includes everything needed in the

<project>/build/linux/u-boot/src/u-boot-plnx/tools/env/

directory.

It's there. It just doesn't compile. how can I include it to get built and then included into the rootfs.

I didn't see anything in petalinux-config or -c rootfs that includes it into the rootfs so the resulting image.ub has it available for use by the OS.

Hi Ben,

I tried building this according to the README in the tools/env folder and it would not build with this command run from the root:

make CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf- env

I kept getting complaints from U-Boot about a .config not already existing so I copied the config file from PetaLinux tools project U-Boot config:

<project>/subsystems/linux/configs/u-boot/config

To a .config in <project>/build/linux/u-boot/src/u-boot-plnx/

Then it compiled just fine for me just fine from U-Boot src top with the above command.

At this point you could just take the binary and force it into the rootfs with creating a new petalinux app and have the Makefile of the new app simply copy fw_printenv executable into rootfs staging and it will automatically get packed.

The Makefile would look something like this:

---BEGIN Makefile---

include apps.common.mk

APP = fw_printenv

all: build install

build:

clean:

.PHONY: install image

install: $(APP)
t$(TARGETINST) -d -p 0755 $(APP) /usr/bin/$(APP)

---END Makefile---

Yea. Sometimes I don't know if I should ask there or here. It's kind of a PetaLinux question which says "Xilinx" -- but it's not like this forum probably isn't using that tool.
