Does Xilinx ISE 14.x work with zedboard ?

Hi,

I've been struggling to get XPS working on my zedboard but no luck. I have tried the WebPack license which has been generated by voucher and free key. None of license work with zedboard. Also, I gave a try for all ISE version from 14.1 which comes with the kit and 14.4 from Xilinx website. None of them works neither. It is really frustrating and disappointing. It wouldn't be easy to go further development with this buggy tools. I believe that all those problem come from "FREE LICENSE", even though it belongs to zedboard.
Can I remove the license problem window, whenever the xps are launched. Also, I'm wondering what the Xilinx official TRD would be for Zedboard.

I have tried all version of Xilinx ISE with Linux 64 bit/Windows 7 64 bit and licenses from voucher/free on two machines.

If I'm wrong of that, please correct me.

    I'd say Xilinx 14.4 works just well enough to waste a lot of your time. You get suckered into thinking it works, but then spend a good part of a day trying to find work-arounds on all sorts of little snags.

    I have extensively use the previous Xilinx ISE versions with Spartan chips without issue. I've created MicroBlaze with Xilkernel on the Spartan FPGA.

    IMO, the ISE/Vivado tools are not yet ready for Zynq. I'm hoping for better operation with the new version due out early 2013 that finally integrates Zynq properly.

    After a few days going through the very nicely detailed Zynq Intro Labs tutorials, Xilinx ISE 14.4 is still not working yet on the Zynq peripheral setup or the PL, as it should according to the tutorial.

    Using the Xilinx 14.4 tool chain, I found so far:
    1. The SDK will only properly link the supporting files if you start PlanAhead from the 64 bit command line, rather than Windows. (Go figure.) It took going through many reconfigurations of my own and trying three different forum suggestions to find this one that worked.
    2. Some peripherals (Ethernet, QSPI) aren't working yet. Even the forum suggestion of using previously built XML files in XPS doesn't help on these peripherals. I did get the UART to work.
    3. I've not yet been able to try configuring the PL side by generating my own bit stream, considering I'm still slogging through the above snag.
    4. On the good news, I did get the Maxim Pmod example to work completely, using their supplied bit stream and Zynq TCL setup files. I can then change, compile, launch, and run the C program at will, by using the already compiled hardware platform for both PS and PL sides.

    So even following the tutorials, with the current Xilinx ISE 14.x, I'm not yet able to generate my own PS/PL custom hardware configurations due to difficulties of items 1-3.
