ZUBoard 1CG Programming over JTAG

Using Vivado 2022.2.2, I generated a bitstream for zub1cg_sbc_base but can't seem to open the target to program it over JTAG (micro usb). I've tried both auto connect and manual from the hardware manager but neither seem to find the board.

Here's the open target log...

Hi When you plug the microUSB into the HOST BC does the amber LED (D24) between the microUSB and USBC connector illuminate?

Hi Adam, I just saw the comment "I have USB C connected to computer" You need to use a 45W (15V 3A) USB C supply to power the ZUBoard. Then you need to press the power SW to turn the board on.

Hey Adam, Just to clarify, the USB C is only power. Its not a networking interface. The reason you need a USB - C supply that can negotiate to 15V is the USB C controller chip on the ZUBoard specifically…

Hey Adam, just to confirm your boot mode switch is set to JTAG & the micro-usb cable is properly connected between your ZUBoard & your PC? Also, do you see uarts enumerating over the microusb link?

Hi Josh! I have SW2 set to all on so it should be set to JTAG boot. I have both USBC and micro connected to my computer. I didn't see any UARTs. Should they show up as new devices in Windows' device manager? Is there any place else to check? Thanks!

I just tried FTDI's USBView but the ZUBoard never appeared. Additionally, I switched the USBC to a dedicated power brick and swapped out multiple micro usb cables. All to no avail.

The tutorials that I have been following all seem to use Vitis to program the device but I would like to use Vivado as I don't need the PS for what I'm doing. Can Vivado even directly program the ZUBoard?

    Hey Adam,

Just to clarify, the USB C is only power. Its not a networking interface. The reason you need a USB - C supply that can negotiate to 15V is the USB C controller chip on the ZUBoard specifically is looking to communicate with a compatible supply. If your supply is not compatible it will limit it to 5V and the board will NOT POWER ON.

If your supply does work at 15V and is properly negotiated with the ZUBOARD, you should be seeing D14,D15,D16 illuminated. (Amber LEDS)

When you see these leds illuminated you must then hit the ON/OFF power button to turn the board on (when its powered D23 green LED will illuminated). When the board is powered on you should then be able to see the UART/JTAG interfaces and the amber LED illuminated that C_Chil mentioned. If your board isn't power on you will NOT see these interfaces.

I am thinking your issue is related to the board not being powered on.

    -Josh

That was it! I didn't have a good enough power supply. Swapped it out with a 15v/3a brick and pushed the reset button and then I was able to program the PL! Thank you Josh!
