The only thing I must solve is how to program the OLED to display diagnostic messages. There are some code snippets in AvnetStarterKitOled but the "official" AvnetStarterKitReferenceDesign GitHub repo only offers the following: "TODO: Add support for OLED display".

[View:/resized-image/__size/800x435/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-fa0d6d51-e535-48da-98bc-2320cd17acfc/contentimage_5F00_204779.jpg:800:435]

[View:/resized-image/__size/800x384/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-fa0d6d51-e535-48da-98bc-2320cd17acfc/contentimage_5F00_204780.jpg:800:384]

RE: Azure Sphere - Tips to max-out your Starter Kit hardware! This would require an ADC channel to read the voltage.
