I accidentally touched the backside of the azure sphere when pressing the buttons on it. That is when it went off. In the cover, it is written that the device is static electricity sensitive. That might be the reason for this problem.

If you can get a replacement IC then whoever removes U5 for you should be able to reflow solder the replacement on at the same time.

Thank you very much. You are a lifesaver. When my device stopped working, I got really frustrated and was about to throw it away. Then I saw this post. Then I gave my azure sphere to a mobile service center where they had some equipment (they called it blower) through which they removed this U5 component. I bought an adjustable buck converter and connected its input side to 5V and GND on the azure sphere. Then I set the output to 3.3V via the potentiometer on it. Then connected it to the 3.3V and GND on the azure sphere. Great tutorial!

I am the author of the first post with a fix about this on hackster. Just to add a couple of tips:

-Seems that some LDO boards have wrong silkscreen marks (voltages displaced and so on...), check always the output voltage before connecting to the Azure board!

-Also adjust the potentiometer carefully after installing it to match 3.3V with the current the board is drawing.

-Be sure of the max current output of the LDO you are using, WiFi has big peak current demand when transmitting!
