How to do OTA update for SIM

cmelement14
cmelement14 over 1 year ago

I activated my device half month ago. Up to this point of time, my device status stuck in Pre-active state (as shown below) instead of Active (expected). Verizon support told me "Pre- active in the portal would indicate that activation of the line has been done but programming or Over the Air programming for your sim card has not completed." I asked him how to do OTA and no response from Verizon. I am trying my luck here.

Does anyone know how to do OTA update or how to make the device status to Active?

Even I plug the Monarch LTE-M Development Kit into PC's USB port and two red LEDs are lit, my device connection is always shown Disconnected. What does it mean? Verizon's web pages are definitely not the most straightforward ones.

Thanks for the info. My device always has strong signal (-75dBm). I'm frustrated with Verizon ThingSpace.

    hello jafoste4

I am one of the 3 reviewers for the Monarch Kit RoadTest. I activated my device back on March 12,2021. At that point i noticed on my ThingSpace account, the status was "Disconnected" and my Kit was plug in?   I was experimenting with the some of the MCU SDK examples.. Since then I have been experimenting with the Azure OOB demo and was able to communicate successfully with the Azure Iot Template. I didn't notice when it changed status, but my one ThingSpace Device is now showing a status of 'Connected"?  Even though my board is not powered on at the moment and have not run test since the last connection date?

I was happy to see the data usage appear so I can monitor my throughput. I would wonder what happens when you reach your plan limit for the month? I could not seem to find the answer to this anywhere?

The Navigation on the Site is a little confusing, but I've homed in on the "MyStuff page and devices" for now.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive reason why your device is not connected?

Let me know what you learn from Version if anything.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Up to this time, my usage is 0 for data and SMS. Status is still pre-active. I have been charged for two months. Basically, I gave up on Verizon.

That's a drag. Have you tried the the Out Of The Box demo presented in workshop Part 2?

    • This workshop is an  excellent project to experiment with the kit.

Monarch Go Workshop: Part 2: Introduction to Azure IoT Central Out of Box Example

      • The event is over but  View the Event Recording Here
      • If you want to follow along, use the blog Monarch LTE-M Development Kit IoT Central Out of Box Example written by  jafoste4

I'm going to try to connect a MikroE Relay Click to the Kit next.

Hopefully I'll be successful  I'm really enjoying this kit

I tried and it worked once. Later, the template app didn't get sensor update anymore. Because Verizon doesn't provide the correct device status and data usage, I don't really know what was wrong. After 7 days, the template app expired and I cannot even try it.

I had the same problem, but by moving the kit to another location, it started transmitting data up to IoT central.

I do typically have bad cell bars in my workshop. It took me a while to relize this because I'm use to working with WiFi.

    This might work for you

I was able to start another 7 day Free IoT Central template by running the the link

and logging in the same account that I created the first time.

      • click on this link http://avnet.me/monarch-devkit-IOTC-TEMPLATE(The Monarch LTE-M Dev Kit application template)

and sign in the the same account.

      • This created another 7 day free template described in the instructions.
      • If you sign out you then have to connect directly to here: https://apps.azureiotcentral.com/
        • and go to the my app tab located on the .on the left hand sidebar. as described in this
