Make explorenfc v1.6 on raspberry pi 2 on mars 2017

Hi,

I'm trying to read a nfc tag with an explorenfc and raspberry 2 with raspbian jessie, kernel 4.4.48-v7+.

I've found a simple installation process on nxp website : Download SW2827.zip and install the two .deb : libneardal0_0.14.3-1_armhf.deb neard-explorenfc_1.2-1_armhf.deb

The installation process works well but the neard-explorenfc service does not work : after a minute, the service "exited" :

Launching the daemon in debug mode gives more information:

$ sudo explorenfcd -nd

** (explorenfcd:31680): ERROR **: Could not init NXPRdLib

In the NxpNfcRdLib/types/ph_Status.h file from SW3693, I can't find the F001 code.

Is there somebody understanding this error ?

Hello,

I am currently working with the explore nfc and i have the same issue. with the NFC connected I am not able to use the I2C. Is there any software fix for this issue? was anyone else able to solve the problem?

PN512 RSSI measurements

Hi,

For an NFC application I am developing, I need to extract some path loss information from the channel between the tag and the reader. As of now, I am developing and testing with the EXPLORE-NFC board from element14 and was wondering if I could extract RSSI measurements from the tag's response. Is this possible?

While I do have the board, I've never actually tried it. A look at the datasheet https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/data-sheet/PN512.pdf doesn't seem to reveal any commands within the PN512's repertoire that is capable of reporting signal strength.

However there is this special test-mode called Testbus in the datasheet:

It seems to re-route test signals to the normal D0-D6 pins with D1 showing the RF level detector value. Unfortunately, this is not designed for use in regular operation and will probably prevent the chip from performing normal functions while in this mode because it seems to take over the data bus. There is not much detail as to the signals/entering/exiting the relevant modes, so unless anyone else has experience with this, you might need to confirm with NXP.

According AN11480 43:

1. Copy the zip compressed software onto an USB Stick.

4. Change into the directory that contains the extracted files with the command:

cd ~/<directory of extracted files>/

5. Install the files with the command:

sudo dpkg -i libneardal0_<version>_armhf.deb neardexplorenfc_<version>_armhf.deb

Where “<version>” needs to be substituted with the real version strings

contained in the file names.

1. Which software packet needs to be downloaded.

5. I tried different available software packets eg SW282816. But then 5) is i think outdated.

It is not that i am unwilling to give the exact cmd string. That is not the problem. I'am into linux more than a decade. The problem is that the two .deb files are not there.

" sudo dpkg -i libneardal0_<version>_armhf.deb neardexplorenfc_<version>_armhf.deb"

Anyway thanks Jon for the time that you already put into answering. But we better close this session. I'm in the process of an alternative.

If you are unwilling to provide the exact command line string your are typing to reach this error, then it would be nearly impossible to help you find a solution.

My recommendation is for you to provide either a screen shot or a copy-paste of the command your are typing and error you are seeing as well as post the output of 'ls' from the directory where you uncompressed the files.

I know what your saying but i did all that. Untarren etc, files are not available.

Huh?

What command line string are you using to get the error?

Looks like you may have to uncompress the neard-explorenfc_1.2-1.debian.tar.xz and the neard-explorenfc_1.2.orig.tar.gz files further.

From what I can gather, your command line string should look like:

sudo dpkg -i libneardal-dev_0.14.3-1_armhf.deb neard-explorenfc_1.2_armhf.deb

That is if neard-explorenfc_1.2-1_armhf.deb is in either neard-explorenfc compressed file.

Also, you need to be in the directory where you unzipped the files when you run the command.

.zip contains:

.zip does not contain (ref AN11480 4.3):

>>libneardal0_<version>_armhf.deb

>> neardexplorenfc_<version>_armhf.deb

When install:

>> libneardal-dev_0.14.3-1_armhf.deb

it asked for libneardal0_<version>_armhf.deb which is not available

What error are you seeing when you run the commands?

Also, what are the .deb files names you have that you are trying to install?

It might be helpful to provide the exact command string you are using to install these files.

Thks for the reply, but that is just the problem.;

I downloaded all the packages, with none of them was i able to install (ref 5.)

I you have no issue with the world seeing your email address, then I guess it is not an issue. Typically, a username would be used and the email would be used to tie the account to.

Look at your posts without being logged into the element14 site and see what I am referring to.

I'm not sure if it were intended but your username is showing up with your email address for those not logged in.

Explore NFC PN512

Whole installation process seems fine, but when I go with explorenfc-basic none of my card is seen. Just nothing is happening.
I have checked and its not problem of a card, I enable SPI and reboot system couple of times. Will you have any hints for me?

Hi Michal,

I think the problem is, anyone who manages to get explore-NFC working do not bother to report back with how to do it, which leaves newcomers still guessing.

Please see the comments here in case it helps (I don't know if you've already tried it, or if it will solve your issue though).

NFC tag and developers kit to develop application

Hello I am a student and writing a specification for the applicaiton which would read the NFC tag or sticker using mobile phone and it will send the data to the database . it will be date/time, room no, asset code.

I would like to purchase tags and beginner developers kit to try to write a small programme for my presentation to show it can read the tag and send data what kit shall I buy and where to start? I will also need to creaete a primitive mobile interface for the user after they touch the tag to indicate they succeded. Would like some advice what kit to get and bit help/guidance on programming.

Just one idea from many: have a look at this free online course by ST RFID / NFC MOOC with hands-on exercises . There is a recommended hardware to follow the course and it gives a pretty nice introduction with simple hands on exercises.

STMicroelectronics has many Nucleo kits with MCUs and many expansion boards with an Arduino layout. If you wanted to use them together, choose Nucleo-64 boards

explorenfc-basic > file.txt in loop

Hello everybody,

for a project I want the command explorenfc-basic > file.txt in loop. The parameter > file.txt results a text file with the content of the NFC tag being written to the desired directory.

This works synonymous perfectly. However, I would like the program does not break off after the first "card scan". For this there is the "-k" option (Hold the program run).

The command explorenfc-basic -k works perfectly, but if I write explorenfc-basic > file.txt -k it does not work.

Anyone an Idea?

Hello Virginia, I have the same problem as you had. My project consists in Raspberry Pi 3 communicating with a custom PCB composed of Explore NFC (PN512) and other devices. I am using the SPI and I2C protocols. The SPI communication between Explore NFC (PN512) and Raspberry Pi 3 has been implemented using this guide https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/application-note/AN11480.pdf . The problem is that the I2C communication is corrupted by the SPI and I have a limited time to solve the problem. I would like you to help me and, in particular, to give me the modified library allowing a good coexistence between SPI and I2C protocols. Thanks in advance.
