I ran into everything Shabaz did and thought my board was bricked as well. I did load the pre-compiled platinum project and start a serial emulator. I got the splash screen after every reset, so I knew it wasn't the board. The splash screen told me I had an unknown subfamily kinetis chip. Uh, huh, the sample software needs an upgrade. Freescale is faling behind big time.

Mbed is great but for anyone migrating from Arduino, there is still a lot of learning.
