Prototype shield for the Freedom Board?

The Proto Shield makes it simple to create unique circuits. You can solder parts to the prototyping service area to build your project, or you can use it with a small solderless breadboard (not supplied) to quickly test circuit ideas without soldering. It has additional connections for all of the Arduino I/O pins, as well as space for through-hole and surface mount integrated circuits. It's an easy method to combine your custom circuit and an Arduino into a single module.

I started practising my ARM programming with KL25Z FRDM board by NXP Semiconductors. I would like to know how we must access the UART lines for sending the data using "Only BareMetal Coding and not with any other softwares like Kinetis etc.," please help me out. Thanks in advance.

So I found this article https://mcuoneclipse.com/2016/08/01/bricking_and_recovering_opensda_boards_in_windows_8_and_10/ I decided to try it to see if it would fix my board, no luck but it does seems to be the same issue. I finally decided to buy the programmer tool from ebay. and it arrived today. Unfortunately it doesnt come with the correct cable. I had order the correct one at the same time and now I'm just waiting for it to come in so I can try the tool. I will let you all know how it goes when I get it. If it works, it will be worth the $30 for the tool and cable especially since it can be used for multiple boards.

Also once I got the tool, I opened it up and if you want to use it for other size connectors, all you have to do is solder the proper size pin header and have a cable to fit it. Looks promising.

Bricked FRDM-K82F

Hi,

I have a FRDM-K82FFRDM-K82F board that I bricked by plugging it in my windows 10 laptop before knowing about the bootloader bug with windows 10 I would like to get the board working again and I was wondering if anyone has information on how to reload the OpenSDA bootloader I have seen post somewhere for a different board where they used another board to reload it I do have a second K82F board but I'm not sure how to use it to load a bootloader on the bricked one I was also thinking about buying a programmer from ebay that I think would do the same job ULINK2 USB JTAG Emulator support MDK4.54 ARM7 Cortex Keil Debug Adapter AK, but I would have to make a cable to convert it from a 20 pin 2.54mm pitch to a 10 pin 1.27mm pitch. Has anyone used this type of programmer? And would it work to load the bootloader?

Actually I meant to mention that I had tried it in a windows 7 pc and an ubuntu one. The board wont show up at all. Even though I can tell it is powered up. I'm pretty confident that the bootloader is corrupted. I had contacted NXP after it happened, and thats how I got the second board, I had told them what it was doing and they sent me a new board, I only had to pay for shipping, no other question asked. Funny thing is when I first got the board, I was using it on a windows 7 pc and it worked fine. It was only when I tried it in my laptop (windows 10) that it stopped working. Then when I put it back in the windows 7 pc it wouldn't work anymore. After a couple of weeks of frigging around with it, the windows 10 issue showed up on a couple of forums.

If it isn't possible for to repair the bootloader, I know I can still program the board by loading the bin using the mcu debug port instead. So that's why I either need to buy the tool or use the second board as a bootloader.

With the second board, It will work with windows 10 now because I was able to upload the new bootloader before corrupting it on my windows 10 pc (lesson learned on the first board).

Hi Dana,

I think it could be worth just trying your failed board on Windows 7 first just in case it works (because the bricking issue is rare according to the earlier link), if it is already bricked then no further harm can be done to it.

Regarding the use of the second board, I don't think it would become bricked if you use Windows 7, because the issue seems related to Windows 10 only. After the bootloader is upgraded, then you can use Windows 10 safely from what I can tell from the mcuoneclipse.com link.

The bricking issue is with the OpenSDA v2.1 that gets corrupted when plugging it into a windows 10 pc. Here is the link to the issue https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-330935 I had plugged my board into the pc before the issue was known and now it appears dead.

I was researching the ulink2 on ebay a bit more and it says it supposts 10pin 1.27mm pitch so I think I may just have to buy a cable for it If it doesn't the adapter you suggested looks like it will work I will probably end up buying this tool as I believe it would be useful for other boards

I also seen an article about using a second board to reprogram the bricked one https://mcuoneclipse.com/2016/06/26/how-to-recover-the-opensda-v2-x-bootloader/ I was thinking I would try that as I do have a second K82f board, but I'm a little paranoid about bricking that too and being out 2 boards.

I don't have a lot of experience with bootloaders, Thats why I think the tool from ebay would be the best choice, I would just hate to spend the money if it wouldn't work.

Hi Dana,

I don't know what bricking issue you're referring to, nor have I used this board, but I have noticed that a lot of the FRDM boards won't work with Windows 10 until the bootloader has been upgraded, and so far for me that has entailed finding a Windows 7 machine and performing the bootloader upgrade via USB, not with a USB-JTAG adapter. However recently someone reported finding a way to do it with Windows 10, see here: https://developer.mbed.org/questions/74001/Update-FRDM-bootloaders-using-only-Windo/ although I've not tried this so far.

Regarding the USB-JTAG, if you did need it, then it is quite hard to make that cable due to the size. However it is available with other dev-boards sometimes, e.g. I'm sure I've received one with a TI dev-board in the past. There is a very low-cost one here which looks like it might fit (I have not tried it so I can't be sure): ARM-JTAG-20-10ARM-JTAG-20-10

NXP FRDM-HB2001-EVM, MC33HB2001 Configure to Half Bridge Mode

Hi all,

Does anyone here have any experience in using the FRDM-HB2001-EVM evaluation board with Freedom Board FRDM-KL25ZFRDM-KL25Z or the MC33HB2001 chip from NXP

It is an SPI programmable brushed DC motor driver which can work in 2 modes, H bridge and Half Bridge modes. This changing of mode can be done through the use of NXP's SPIGen software to program the FRDM-HB2001-EVM connected with FRSM-KL25Z. However, it seems that by using the software, the switching of modes is only temporary for as long as the SPIGen software runs.

Is there any way to make the MC33HB2001 chip permanently a Half-Bridge Driver on its own so that it does not have to be connected to the FRDM-KL25ZFRDM-KL25Z and the SPIGen software

Reply on a very old thread but still actual question.

Fiddled a little with KZ05Z and Mbed but noticed that there is to much overhead.

Therefore I want to use the Co-Ide from CooCox for development.

If somebody has some experiences with that I like to hear.

I want to use the board as a controller to drive LED panels.

If somebody has some experiences with that I like to hear.

In my pres-study I faced some still unsolved problems with getting the right library package for the chip.

Hi,

I am having a problem similar to the last 2 posters but none of the solutions suggested have fixed it I have a that was working on my computer back when I was on Win7 I would simply drag and drop precompiled binaries and everything would be fine Now that I got Win10 it failed everytime I tried to drag and drop a compiled file I found out that I needed to upgrade my FRDM-KL25ZFRDM-KL25Z OpenSDA firmware to at least 1.11 I tried doing it on Win10 but it turns out that that doesn't work and I need Win7 or previous So after this failed attempt to update the bootloader after unplugging and plugging back in nothing happens no LED turns on no device is detected on Windows All I can do is get into bootloader mode

I then stumbled upon this thread which suggested to install the latest PEMicro Drivers on a Win7 computer, which I did and tested on 2 separate computers.

Here's the unsuccessful sequence I've tried several times so far:

Go into bootloader mode by holding reset and plugging into computer
Copy BOOTUPDATEAPP_Pemicro_v111.SDA to the bootloader "disk"
Unplug usb
Plug usb back in
Wait up to 2 minutes. Nothing.
Go back into bootloader mode
LASTSTAT.TXT indicates "Ready." (On Win10 it said Programming...)
SDA_INFO.HTM displays the following info (Suggesting the bootloader is still at 1.09):

Board Name is FRDM-KL25ZFRDM-KL25Z

MicroBoot Kernel Version is: 1.05

Bootloader Version is: 1.09

Application Version is: 0.00

DUID is: 74823937-473181B2-3748C806-B678E678

I have similar problem. When I try to open BOOTLOADER mode it works and in LASTSTAT it is writen "Programming... ". But in normal mode nothing's happen. LED doesen't blink or it's not on. Also, In explorer nothing is happening. I instaled all drivers and reinstall few times and try all writtened above.

Hello everybody,

I purchased a FRDM - KL25Z board with an Intrinsc sensor board and set it up like the Start Up Guide suggested. Additionally I updated the MSD and the bootloader version to the newest version.

Because we want to use the device only to record the sourunding magnetic fileds I tried to access the board via putty (and also Tera Term) to directly read its data via the serial Port.

Therefore the manual suggested to run the serial_test file which comes with the precompiled files, which perfectly worked. When trying to acces the board directly it just gave back a string of signs that made no sense and trying out different translations didnt change anything.

I made sure to use the same baud rate, parity, bit, etc configuration the manual suggests and as stated before tried different terminals to access the board.

After unplugging and restarting my computer (OS = Windows 7 btw) and plugging the board back in, the board does not send anything to the terminal (not even some bullshitt like before)

Has anybody encountered a similar problem and knows a way out.

Is the source package available? That would be handy for a reference.

For other people who find this -- I could not update the boot drivers and the PEMicro files from Windows 10. I had to re-boot my system under the XP operating system. Once I update to version 1.11 it worked fine.

The new Freescale development system (Version 3.x) works as well and I have compiled and run some programs using the pe-link access to the Freedom KL25Z board.

Also -- is there a working WiFi or Ethernet interface that would be easy to integrate?
