I was going to try Warsow, as you put in your post. But, Warsow is not available in the Fedora Repos. So, I edited your ".desktop" file. And put in Krusader. My favorite, Linux File Manager. It worked out well. And as a bonus. Krusader, has a built in function, to start Konsole. A Terminal Emulator. So, now I can start most any App, from Krusader. Without, the overhead of a GUI Desktop System Running too. I plan on trying this out, in another system that I have. It is a P4, with only 512Mb of Ram. It runs Fedora 21, surprisingly well, on the XFCE Desktop. But, I found it's limit. I tried Rendering a Video file, in Kdenlive Video Editor. The App reported, that it wold take almost 19 hours, to render. I knew I didn't want that Computer running all night, in my room, next to my bed. But, I let it run for over an hour. Just to see, if the estimated time to Render, would change. But, the system seemed to lock up. The mouse, wouldn't respond. So, I gave up on that idea and did a Hard Shut Down on the System. I'm going to make a ".desktop" file, for Kdenlive and Krusader, on that System. And see if I can get that Video to Render on it. I can't really Render Videos and Work on my Core 2, 1.8GHz System, at the same Time. Even with 3GB of DDR2 Ram. It's all it can do. Just to handle running Thunderbird, Firefox, Krusader and a few other odd Apps, as I work. That's with a Web Server and a few other things running on Gnome 2, in Fedora 14. I'm surprised to find, that Fedora 21 will run on these older Machines. With the XFCE Desktop, quite well. XFCE, has a few more features, than it use to. And it supports, more Apps, now too. So, I am beginning to really like XFCE. I'm an old Gnome 2 Diehard, guy. So, I have been using Mate, on all of my Newer Fedora Systems. Since it's very close to Gnome 2. Ultimately, I want to max out the memory on that P4 system, to 2GB. I found 2GB of DDR Memory, (2, 1Gig Sticks) on Amazon.com for under $15. I have already bought and put some in another Single Core Celeron 2.8GHz System. And it is running Fedora 21, with the Mate Desktop, Pretty Well. I'm setting it up to be a Video Player, for the TV. It is a little Sluggish, when Playing Flash Videos. So, I installed XFCE and now it's doing pretty well. That's one of the things I like best, about Linux. You can run it on most any Computer, from old to new. I have Debian Running on a 350MHz P3 and DSL Linux Runs great on a 166MHz P1! Thanks, again for sharing, the How To. I can't believe, I never ran across, that before. I knew, that several Live Linux CD's could Launch Stand Alone Apps. Like, GParted and File Managers, in Stand Alone Mode. But, I never knew, how it was done. And it turns out to be so simple! I've been running Linux OS's Since 2005. And still, there's always, something new to learn:)

Thanks,

Don

RE: Hadron Vortex G2 - Launching GUI apps without Desktop

I like the way you think.
