What is the pin size of holes in Explorer Board?

monkeyman_stones

I own 2 GizmoSphere Gizmo2 Explorer Boards, but I have never been able to use them as I've never found pins which fit into the holes. In addition all of the pdf's about the Explorer Board, Gizmo2 and Gizmo 1 do not state what the size is.  I've tried for 3 years to put my Gizmo 2 and Explorer Boards to use but have never been able to due to the lack of information about the pin size required.

What is the pin size for the holes of the GizmoSphere Gizmo Explorer Board?

Thank you for your help,

David

Does no one know? I would think that someone has built a project with the GizmoSphere Gizmo 1 or 2 Explorer Board and therefore knows what the pin size is...

    Hi David,

If you're referring to the large grid of holes then it usually doesn't matter what precise size the hole diameter for the grid of holes is, virtually any through-hole part (which typically have wires of diameter 0.6mm or so) should fit. The pins are spaced 0.1 inch apart, which again is usual.

I have a board here and I just tried a typical SIL pin header into it, and it is a loose fit, so most through-hole components will fit (those that typically go into perfboard or stripboard).

My experience was that a pin any smaller than a tight fit tilts sideways and touches the pins of other plugged in devices around it. It risks shocking and/or shorting out the board and potentially the Gizmo2 (I discovered this with the Explorer Board not plugged in and testing for contact between pins with my Fluke 88VA multimeter). You could plug anything you wanted into it but with the major risk of causing arcing and destroying the Gizmo Explorer Board and/or Gizmo2.

You could cut the pins to prevent accidental contact, but then you can only pray that there is enough of those pins remaining to properly plug into anything else.

Do you have a photo, or a web link or product code for the pins that you have tried?

I suspect you're talking about a completely different use-case or scenario than I'm referring to, but without this information I'm struggling to guess what it could be.
