BeagleBone Black Hands-on Workshop

Attached to this blog post is the handout which was used in the element14 booth at Maker Faire Detroit 2013:

Sponsored by Element14

Presented by jkridner with fustini, element14Dave, Justin Triplett (i3 Detroit volunteer) and Mark Miles

(i3 Detroit volunteer)

BeagleBone Black is a $45, 1GHz computer that ships with a Linux distribution on its on-board 2GB flash and has extensive I/O capabilities. We’ll be focusing on how you can wire up sensors and actuators using an included JavaScript library and IDE.

image

It has four lessons which utilize Bonescript on the BeagleBone Black:

  1. Blink an LED
  2. Use button to set LED
  3. Use potentiometer to control LED brightness
  4. Read temperature using a TMP36 temperature sensor

Here's a quick video of what the workshop in our element14 booth looked like:

Cute professorial beagle etched on that acrylic base. Judging by the pics over at " A Weekend at MakerFaire Detroit ", something about it seemed vaguely BurningMan'ish or fringe/alternative. Is that a…

    Drew

Thanks for the update, and intro.

It will come in handy when I extract mine from its forced hibernation while I sort out several other things first.
