In a quick 2 minute review of the Ultra 96 board's documentation I can say that the Ultra96 board is 100x's the better documented board.

I'd give the BBAI a 2 on documentation out of 10. It's system reference manual has the phrase "I believe" in it, TBD stated five times, and TODO 42 times. Also, it doesn't come out of the box with a Linux device tree setup to use its GPIO even though its marketed as "zero download".

In turn, I imagine someone who isn't a Beagle Bone insider or crazy enough to spend 80 hours to reverse engineer what they can could get a lot more out of the Ultra96 right now.

It looks very well documented, many great features. But for me the $300 price tells me it's not for a hobbyist. And since I've been playing with several older beaglebones already, the learning curve for the BB AI is less steep. So little time. . . .

For me, Ultra96 board is preferred for machine learning. Even though it is more than double the cost, it has more processing horsepower, lot of tutorials and projects, and better SDK option.
