Network security key for BeagleBone Black Wireless

henryhnguyen2000

Hi All,

I just bought the "BeagleBone Black Wireless", connect the power. It comes up as a secured Access Point with SSID "BeagleBone-XXXX". How do I get the Network Security Key? I check the label on the board "BWAXXXXXBBWGYYYY", And use BWAXXXXX or BBWGYYYY as keys, but it does not work. I read through a bunch of documents and can not find the key any where. Your help is appreciated.

Regards,

Henry Nguyen

If you want to change the password (good idea) then have a look in /var/lib/connman/settings for tethering.passphrase Brian

    Hi Brian,

Thanks. It works. The funny thing is when I click on connect, Windows 10 asks for the PIN number of the router??? I have to switch to enter security key, then I enter BeagleBone.

    Thanks,

    Henry Nguyen

    Hi Brian,

As the BeagleBone Black Wireless board wireless default mode is set to Access Point,  how do I set it to wireless station (Type: Managed or Infrastructure), I try to use the iw command as:

    iw set type managed

    I got an error:

command failed: Device or resource busy (-16)

    Please advice.

    Thanks,

    Henry Nguyen

Yeah, the latest Debian releases have changed how the WiFi is configured. You have to use connmanctl   as root ( sudo -s)

Here's a link for how it's done on the BBE but should be the same for any Beaglebone with WiFi  running the latest Debian  WiFi AP mode Enable/Disable – SanCloud

    Hi Brian,

Now I try to switch back to the AP mode using:

    root@beaglebone:~# sudo -s connmanctl

Error getting VPN connections: The name net.connman.vpn was not provided by any

    connmanctl> tether wifi enable

Error enabling wifi tethering: Permission denied

Note that I already use: disable wifi. I even logout and login as root. Any idea?

    Thanks,

    Henry Nguyen

    Hi Brian,

    It works now???  I type:

    root@beaglebone:~# connmanctl

    connmanctl> agent off

    Agent not registered

    connmanctl> tether wifi enable

    Enabled tethering for wifi

    connmanctl> quit

I guess it does not like sudo???

    Thanks,

    Henry Nguyen

Sorry I may have caused confusion,  If you are logged in as a user such as debian then sudo lets you run a command as root If you are already logged in as root then of course you don't need it.

As for the errors .. strange,   dunno why they happened but you got it sorted.
