It is possible to use the internal memory of the beaglebone and the MicroSD at the same time. For example, the MMC1 to store the files necessary for starting, and the MicroSD to store information in the database.

Yes, there's nothing stopping you from booting from the eMMC and mounting the microSD card and using it for storage. You may have to do some reconfiguration of whatever database software you're using for it to store it onto the microSD card instead of the eMMC though.
