There is a live stream today where the CEO will go over a bit more as to why Particle decided to end support for Particle Mesh:

Also, for those who purchased a Xenon or Mesh related device will receive a store credit if the device was purchased directly from Particle. If the device was purchased by a third party vendor, it may still be possible to get store credit but proof of purchase must be filed before Feb 28. I guess they did not factor that it was Leap Year.
