RioT Board power consumption.

20 Jul 2014

I noticed that several people had remarked that the chip got warm in use, so I decided to run a quick test.

I set up the wall wart on my power meter and plugged in the Riot Board to see what current it drew.

When first plugged in, the wall wart drew between 30 to 40 milliamps at 110VAC.

The power consumption was about 1.1 watts.

After a few minutes, the draw eased to about 20 milliamps and the wattage dropped to about 1.0 watts.

I did notice a slight increase in the chip temperature, but I did not run it very long.

When I get around to putting the whole system together, I will take some additional power readings once it is in operation.

I let My RIoT run about 30 minutes running preloaded Android OS during the time of the test i was surfing the internet and  switching between screens.

    The processor got up to 101 Deg F -  38.3 Deg C

    The memory and everything else 99 Deg F - 37.2 Deg C

    Ambient temp was 75.5 Deg F - 24.1 Deg C
