Project closed? Any roadmap for improvements like wifi-support on android?

Former Member

Hi@all,

we are using android image on riotbaord.

We have standard usb-wifi connectors with linux support, but we cant use them.

I am a little bit confused about the internet of things?!?

How should i revolutionize it without wifi-support?

Is there any plan, Roadmap or hack for supporting wifi on the riotboard with android?

Will there be ANY continuously support for the boards like android updates?

The freescale ota update seems to need wifi (with no wifi?!?).

Or is this Project closed with current android and Linux Image?

And the community should help itself?

Thanks

WiFiWiFi support on Riotboard will be available and we are working on it.

Will there be ANY continuously support…

As I´ve seen responses in other Threads.

They´re working on it. But I can´t give you a RoadMap or anything like that.

Some rumblings in the background suggest there may be some additional support on the way, but I don't think you should expect that to appear overnight.

    Hi Ott, hi selsinork,
    thanks for the Information.

I think you will agree, when i say:
"respsonses in other threads" or "some rumblings in the background" are not so good as an official statement from the manufacturer.

I know, that i cant expect an organized roadmap for the riotboard...
But some more informations will be usefull for planing projects.

    Thanks

there will be updates supported on Riotboard to ensure smooth running for all available peripherals.

its NOT closed, we are putting our best to provide good support for both linux and android.

Agreed.  I'm just another user of the board (I think Otto is too), we don't in any way speak for the manufacturer

As a personal project, I'm trying to advance linux support and get the missing parts for a mainline kernel and hopefully a basic debian install.  While I'm doing it for my own purposes, I hope it can help others too. So yes 'self help'

I don't use Android, so unfortunately can't help you there

    Yup that´s right.
I am using the board as a Linux system for my own purposes too. I don´t use Android although I tested it a bit. So I can´t help much with that either.

I just think that the board is pretty new and the community has to do some more until everything is working. You can´t expect the same Support as in a board as the RaspberryPi or similar. It´s a lot longer on the market and has a really big community. The community for the riotboard has to build up first.

RPi also had the advantage of lots of publicity prior to launch, so a lot of people queued up to buy one. So a more or less ready made community on the day of release.

Not so for RIoT, what community we have still seems quite small.  Never mind that RIoT is competing with RPi and BBB and so will probably take time to gain any momentum.  I'm still hopeful..

Thanks for the lot of input,

plz dont missunderstand me, the board is young and great and we would use it for development.

But the internet of things without wifi is confusing. ^^

In my opinion, one great chance for this board is the android-support.

we are putting all efforts to provide a stable release (Linux/Android) equipped with support for the hardware .

as a young community board i guess it needs some time.
