Kit Overview

The CC85XXDK-HEADSET is based on multiProductLinkmultiProductLinkCC85xx devices which are Texas Instrument’s wireless audio SoCs for the 2.4 GHz unlicensed ISM band. Upon the release of the PurePath Wireless Headset Kit only the CC8520RHAT and CC8530RHAT is released to the market, the subsequent devices in the multiProductLinkmultiProductLinkCC85xx family will be released in the future. This multiProductLinkmultiProductLinkCC85xx family offers state-of-the-art co-existence and robustness, excellent link budget and low power operation while streaming high-quality audio wirelessly. The CC8520RHAT product folder on the web has more information, with datasheets, user guides and application notes.

The PurePath Wireless Headset Kit includes all the necessary hardware to evaluate, demonstrate, prototype and develop analog input and output applications, as well as USB applications with the multiProductLinkmultiProductLinkCC85xx. The main parts in the kit are the two multiProductLinkmultiProductLinkCC85xx Headset boards. The hardware included in the kit has the potential to demonstrate complete headset functionality. However, firmware to support bi-directional audio is not yet ready upon the release of this kit.

The multiProductLinkmultiProductLinkCC85XX Headset board reference design contains production material i.e., schematics, layout files, gerbers and BOM for the boards used in the CC85XXDK-HEADSET Development Kit. The design files are supplied as Gerbers, PDF-files and in Cadstar format. The reference design demonstrates good design techniques for RF and Audio layout and decoupling. For optimum RF and audio performance, the design should be copied as accurately as possible.

Audio network topology:

Audio network topologies supported include up to 4 headphones listening to the same base station (“audio star network”). The headset boards can be used as either audio network masters or slaves depending on how they are programmed.

The development kit comes pre-programmed with firmware as described in the quick start user’s guide. This firmware is available as an example project in PurePath Wireless Configurator tool (PPWC) PC software. The functionality of the kit can be changed by using PPWC.
