Their user base has grown massively over the last few weeks and also the number of offers of money has also increased including sponsoring KICAD programmers to introduce new functionality by Digikey!!

The chaos can only help Opensource... Pitty the cost in time and effort is so high when you change CAD applications.

BTW Olimex did their new laptop with KICAD!

RE: The Double Whammy - EAGLE Gets a New Update & New Pricing

Way to stick it to the little guy. I paid $169 for my enthusiast version of eagle that included 4 layers. Now to get the same functionality I have to pay 200% more EVERY YEAR??!? Thanx Autodesk.

RE: The Double Whammy - EAGLE Gets a New Update & New Pricing

Just went to download page and version 8 does NOT support 32 bit Linux! The maker community in general is quite unhappy with this decision and already so many have either jumped ship or are in preparation for the same. The only thing keeping people tied to Eagle are the footprints and the time invested in making the libraries. After a while, this will not matter as experts share their libraries for KiCAD and the like and once a manufacturer/distributor like Wurth joins the party, that will mark the end of the Eagle era.

So many makers and DIY companies such as Adafruit as well as Sparkfun have shared their libraries and they will continue to use Eagle for a longer duration.

As for me, I have been torn between KiCAD and Eagle for a few months however this has made my decision for me.

Adios Eagle... Its been fun.

RE: The Double Whammy - EAGLE Gets a New Update & New Pricing

This is what I dreaded when I heard Autodesk was taking over Eagle: Subscription pricing. I get why so many software companies want to do this, but it is a terrible deal for the consumer.

It is a legalized ransomware scheme: Pay us or we take away your software. If I have a bad year financially, I may loose some of the software I need. Before I could keep using what I had purchased - even if it wasn't the latest version.

This is forcing me to look at other options - ones that aren't as ideal, but at least can continue to use when the cash flow is tight.
