Change "Show" highlight color?

e14 Contributor
e14 Contributor over 12 years ago

Is there a way to change the "Show" function's highlight color? The slightly lighter green when clicking on a wire doesn't make for a huge difference from the darker green already there.

I'm using version 6.5.0. Light on a Mac.

In options/settings you find 3 colour palettes for black, white and

coloured background. Here you  can set or generate your own colours.

1st row is for the normal colours, 2nd row for the highlighted colours image

    Unfortunately this didn't work.

First I found out that there's an "Option" menu available while in the control panel window, and there's another "Option" menu which is only displayed when a schematic is open. This is where I found a sub-menu named "Set" which looks like this:

    image

So next I clicked on the "colored background" button and changed it to some other colour but when pressing "OK" it didn't change!?!?!

But the "Dots" and "Lines" grid allowed for changing to other colours. I can't find anything for the "Info" function.

I've also tried the "View"-"Layers" menu (also only available when having opened a schematic), and see that "Info" is gray for some reason, but changing this to say, yellow doesn't make any difference. Wires are still light green when clicking with a "Show".

    image

If it works for you, are you on a different version/platform than me?

I'm using 6.5.0. Light (freeware version) on the Mac OSX platform.

In summary, each layer is assigned a color from a palette of 64 colors,

and you can set each color in a palette to any color you wish.

In your example, let's start with setting the palette.

From the schematic editor, click on Options->Set.  Under the "Colors"

tab (which should be the default), click on color square to the right of

"White background" and under "Palette".  A color selector dialog will be

    presented.

On this, you will see 64 color squares, most of which are left at a dark

grey.  The first row represents colors when they are NOT highlighted.

The second row represents colors when they ARE highlighted (as they are

with SHOW).  Thus, when a net on a schematic is NOT highlighted, it

assumes the color in the first row and the third column.  When it IS

highlighted, it displays as the color in the second row, same column.

This pattern is followed for any of the colors - highlighted colors are

    in even number rows.

If you click on the highlighted green color square (row 2, column 3),

you can change this to any color you want.  HSV, RGB, and transparency

(alpha channel) all can be set to your liking.  Since the background is

white, you may choose to select a darker color to provide more contrast

    with the background.

Now, that your palette has been set, you can assign specific colors to

    each layer.

Again from the schematic editor, click on the "Layer settings" icon or

type DISPLAY into the command line.  The first displayed layer is layer

91 named "Nets".  Click on the color square, then click on the "Change"

button.  This opens the "Change layer properties" dialog in which you

may choose any of the 64 colors defined in the palette.  It is strongly

advised that you select a color from one of the odd rows.  If you choose

a color from an even row, objects in the layer will not change color

    when highlighted.

So, the palette defines a set of 64 colors, and the layer properties

defines which color to use from the palette.

With this in mind, note that there are three different palettes.  One

for white backgrounds, one for colored backgrounds, and one for black

backgrounds.  The actual color of the background is always the color in

row 1 column 1 of the respective palette.  So the terms "black",

"colored", and "white" when referring to palette selection can be set to

any color you want, though the name of the palette is constant.

The palette to use for each of the layout and schematic editors can be

selected from Options->User Interface.  There you'll see panels for each

of these editors allowing you to select the which background you prefer.

I believe, though I have not tested this, that the library editor uses

the schematic palette when editing symbols, and the layout palette when

    editing packages.

    Hope this helps,

        - Chuck

    Hi,

Just want to make sure that you selected an empty (gray box), select your color, and then clicked "SET COLOR" before clinking OK.  in the settings menu.  Then you should be able to select that color in the layer setting menu.

Maybe it's just me but I don't get it after trying just about everything within those settings.

The only thing that changes colour is the grid (just as the "Set" window says). This has to be one of the most counter-intuitive programs around if it takes all this to change a colour and I can't even find it.

I have the latest version of Eagle ( 9.6.2), and I made my highlight color darker, without messing around with the contrast, and it's perfectly ! image

    Hi there image

First of all install  version 6.6.0 because it corrects some errors in

previous versions and your license permits that.

The colours for .sch and .brd are in colour tables you can access from

sheet or board in: options/setting/colours (and background).

There is a 8X8 Matrix. The first and all uneven rows are the basic

colours, the second and all even rows are the  highlight "show" colours.

I use not only highlight  but contrary colours also i.e. red/green or

    blue/yellow etc.

If you mix your colour don't forget to finally SET it otherwise it

    wouldn't work.

After definition of colours you  should test. Preferable in a sheet

because of less colours compared to a board.

Select the colour icon and double click on a colour square.

A window opens with "layer properties".

Click the colour and the colour matrix opens and (with a sharp eye) you

can see a dotted frame around one colour. That is the one you had selected.

Now you can select a new colour (the dotted frame jumps to it) and after

a couple of "OK"s the new colour is in business.

You can define all (64) colours as you want, but consider that your

colour and the background are a mix of colours and might look different

    finally.

Check also "Help colours" "Help set".
