Autodesk EAGLE Announcement - Time to Move on?

Effective June 7, 2026, Autodesk will no longer sell nor support EAGLE. New and active Fusion 360 and Fusion 360 with EAGLE Premium subscriptions will continue to give you access to Fusion 360 electronics as well as EAGLE Premium functionality until EAGLE is no longer supported in June 2026.

Fusion 360 with EAGLE Standard subscriptions will no longer renew after June 7, 2024. It’s recommended to subscribe to Fusion 360 for access to the electronics workspace.

A subscription to Fusion 360 includes fully integrated CAD, CAM, CAE, and PCB functionality and includes up to 999 schematics, 16 layers, and an unlimited board area.

Is there a user written ULP sharing repository?

Is there a place on the web where Eagle users share their ULPs? I have improved a ULP written originally by someone else and would like to share it.

The ULP is used to do an initial parts placement on a PCB with parts in the same relative position as the schematic. This usually results in parts being roughly where you want them and all on the board. No more zoom in-out when placing parts. Of course there is manual rotations and moves required afterwards but this ULP gives the user a good start.

How to delete orphaned polygons

I have a PCB which I auto-routed and the ripped-up all traces and the auto-routed again. Running DRC exposed overlaps. These overlaps were actually orphaned polygons. I had not created any polygons on my PCB, these are obviously pieces of traces that rip-up all missed.

Orphans on/off has not effect

attempts to delete or check properties of these orphans does nothing.

Solutions anyone?

Need curved rectangular through-hole pad in Eagle

Hello

I need to create a rectangular through-hole pad with a slightly curved corner. For SMD pads there is an option available for curving the corners. But for rectangular through-hole pad their no option for curving the corner.

Please help me out how to curve the corners of rectangular through-hole pads.

Please find the attached img. for a better understanding of the requirement.(In image blue coloured is the drill and green is copper)

Hello

I am facing error regarding the execution of maskdata.ulp. Whenever I run the maskdata.ulp, it show some error like maskdata.ulp(51):missing '[' while accessing 'shape'.

I need to copy tstop & bstop layer to the new layer for which maskdata.ulp is used.

Please help me solving the error due to the maskdata.ulp execution.

How to detect a 'usable' layer?

running 5.12.0

Inside an ULP I want to know what layers in a board are available.

When I loop through the layers in a board with an ULP (like: board(B) B.layers(L) {some code using L} ) I get all signal layers; the layer list in the board editor only shows the ones defined in the DRC.The ones not defined in the DRC are reported as hidden to the ULP.

When a script tries to access one of the layers not listed in the editor, an error pops up stating that that layer is not available (which is IMO correct) and continues to use the next available layer.

Is there a way for an ULP to detect if a hidden layer is just hidden or not available at all, to prevent this from happening in a generated script?

How do I get the name of the open symbol/package in an ULP?

Running 5.12.0.

I want to display the name of the symbol (or package) that is currently open in the library edito inside a dialog.

The package() and symbol() functions are of no use, they just loop through all the symbols / packages.

Using them as statements without an argument like in if (package) I get the confirmation that I am in the right editor, but not what symbol / package is open...

Can this be done, and if so, how?

All,

It's been 3 years since AD chose a different path for licenses. I would

like to announce that the Ultimate edition of Eagle v7.7 is still

chugging along nicely on systems that are not connected to the

Internet. Additionally, I haven't had to spend anything to use it...

not even a nickel! It's still doing everything I need to do.

When v7.7 is no longer adequate, I will seek solutions that offer

off-line licensing. If AD/Eagle is among that group, we'll talk again.

If not, well... that's fine, too.

I see that many of the pre-v8 users still check this newsgroup on

occasion. It's a good thing. However, I do miss Olin. It was always

refreshing to read his matter-of-fact posts.

I know that Jorge was in the middle of a firestorm about this time in

2017. I believe he handled it very well considering how poorly the

transition was was managed at upper levels. My hat's off to you,

buddy! You had a tough job and you took point on it.

My best to Jorge and the Eagle crew, and to all the Eagle users both

pre- and post-v8.

Did autodesk fold in on Eagle?

I got this email from autodesk:

|As of January 7th, 2020, Autodesk EAGLE will now be included as a part

|of a Fusion 360 subscription. All users maintain access to your

|existing EAGLE software while gaining access to Fusion 360 at no

|additional charge.

I suspect autodesk is slowly giving up on this business, and that my

long wanted features never will see the day.

It is sad for the Eagle community and a huge threshold to climb for

those of us needing to move to a different software.

PCB Antenna Transmission Line - Polygon Error?

Hi,

Hoping some Eagle experts can help me understand either what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to get this completed. I am creating a PCB antenna using a coplanar waveguide in eagle and I cannot work out if I am doing it properly as I cannot get the isolation level correct around the transmission line. In order to create the correct 50 Ohm impedance.

I know I need a 0.74mm transmission line from the chip through my Pi network to the antenna
I know I need an isolation of 0.11mm to the GND
I will be using 1.6mm PCB with a dielectric constant of 4.6.

Please see the AppCad calculations below.

To build this layout in eagle I have researched online to understand I can try it several ways. But I am being checkmated each time I try.

First way: Use a Wire

If I use a wire to connect the airwire, I can define the width to be 0.74mm quite easily. However, if I do this it uses the DRC clearance level of 0.15mm. This 0.15 level will change my impedance. I can see the settings at 0.15mm under Edit -> Design Rules -> Clearance Tab is set at 0.15mm. If I change the grid to 0.11mm I can see that the distance to ground is 0.15mm using this method. Then I looked at setting this transmission line as a different Net Class under Edit -> Net Classes. But one cannot set the isolation around the wire. One can set the width of the wire in the net class but not the isolation.

Second Way:

So then I tried to create a polygon. I made the width 0.37 and worked my way between the antenna point below and the left hand edge of my Pi network (C15).I then continued between inductor L4 and C16. By setting the grid to 0.01 and being careful I can see that I can make a polygon exactly 0.74mm wide and give it a 0.11mm isolation in the settings.

however when I ratsnest it ignores the polygons and the isolation and fills it all in...

If I use Properties -> Convert To Wires, it once again uses the DRC at 0.15mm, which is checkmate, so I can't use that route.

Question One: How do I get the ratsnest to respect the polygons that I have built to be the transmission line to the antenna?

Question Two: The autoroute command will not complete unless I connect the air wires along the transmission line. Do I do this underneath the polygon?

Apologies if I am missing something simple and this is a silly question, however I am quite stumped by it and I've tried most every method I can think of.

Today air wires disappeared when I deleted traces

Hi All,

New to the forum, I'm using a mac with latest version of Eagle Cad. This morning I deleted some traces to reposition some components and typically when I do that an air wire automatically appears for each trace deleted between the pads. I hit the rats nest button, still no airwires show up. I tried using the "ratsnest *" command also to no avail. The top line did say I was logged out, so I quit Eagle Cad and and restarted it opened the file again and still no airwires from the pads after hitting ratsnest button and issuing the "rats nest *" command again. Any ideas on what might be going on and what I can do to resolve?

Stop mask on Via : define the solder mask inside the via

Hi all,

I have a question concerning the via and the solder mask. Actually I understood how to use the parameters in the DRC, but I would like to define the solder mask inside the via like in the first photo. But with the DRC I couldn't find a different way than created a circle in the tstop layer.

The reason why is that the manufacturer asked me to do a solder mask with a radius -25µm, as my vias have a diameter of 0.65mm the solder mask should have a diameter of 0.65mm - 25µm.

Do you have any idea how I could do ?

Modify footprint/mask of a component

Hi ! I'm new to Eagle and I have to do some modifications on a PCB. I have the .brd and .sch files of a project and I made some modifications. One of the modifications I want to do is to change the cream mask of a component. I exported the library from the .sch but I still can't access to my component from the .brd, I get an error saying that it can't find the library path. So I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of how I could modify the mask and the footprint of a component knowing that I didn't create the project, I just took it from a previous work.

I also tried to edit my component in the library manager and place it in my schematic deleting the wrong one but when I switch to the board it doesn't appears and I have some errors saying that board and schematic are not consistent.

If have any ideas I take them ! Thank you for your time and your help

Suddenly unable to move components

Hoping someone can help please. This isn't the standard "I've switched off origins" issue btw...

I opened a project this morning and I can't move or rotate components on the board I've been working on for the last week or so. I can move traces fine or the board perimeter, but not components.

I select 'move', select the component and it moves with the cursor, but when I click to place the component, it won't stick. If I try to rotate a component I get the "the free version of Eagle can't perform..." dialogue.

This applies to all components that are on the board I'm working on. I opened an older project and no problems, so the issue seems unique to the project I'm on now.

Dose anyone have a library for Apple's Female Lightning Port?

I'm in the process of designing a USB C to Lightning Adapter that is not only for charging and data. I'm doing it do to the new iPad Pro has USB C and I Know that a lot of people have a lot of Lightning Accessories that they had got for an older iPad before getting the new iPad Pro was even announced. Now The only thing I need is a library for Apple's Female Lightning Port and I'm unable to find one. So if anyone has it would be appreciated if I could have a copy.

displaying attributes in layout via command line/skript/ULP

Hi all,

I've defined attributes on parts in the schematic editor.

Now I'm trying to show them in the layout running an ULP on the

grouped parts in the board editor or from the contex menu.

Without success so far. There seems to be no way to change attribute

visibility in the board editor, besides using the attribute dialog.

Anyone out there with an idea?

first things first: I'm using eagle 6.6.0

after hashing out why my recent ulp project work as expected, it boild

down to the following:

if you have something like "edit .sch; some other commnd ... # ...",

the command line is truncated in front of the '#' character.

For example: "edit .brd; sh 5V# GND" will only highlight the 5V net.

This iis the same with .sch and .sX, from the schematic or board

editor and from an exit("...") command.

The later is the case I stumbled upon.

Can someone confirme the behaviour?

Or, even better, explain it?
