The procedure no longer works, you have to use import from main menu. I'm so happy I am no longer using this poor joke of a progrom. Yep, I have poured £1000 down the drain as the software is a waste of time and the bugs will never be fixed. I am now using KiCad, at least they are making progress.

I'm having issues with PCB libraries. Circuit studio opens them and reads them correctly and has the correct STEP 3D data, but if the library is saved withing CS, then all of the 3D data (generic step file) is lost when the library is opened in Altium again(Note: the 3D data is there in CS). Instead I see a 3D block where the detailed step data used to be.

Is there some setting or option somewhere to get CS to save in the other 3D data format?

Why is this not just simply implemented in CircuitStudio?

Hi Dave-

Thanks for this tutorial. It's great that moving from Circuit Studio to Altium is supported so well. Although I tried your tutorial, and ran into a problem. At step 8, you say that I should be able to show differences on the project, but it doesn't list any differences. Do you know what could be the problem?

The best way to get tech support is by emailing the element14-based support. You can email you files to them and get an answer to your specific question there (I'm experienced with CS, but not nearly as much as the techsupport guys). You can get them at

I have a general question first, which is how paid Circuit Studio users are expected to get technical support. Following web site links invariably leads me to AD support. I have found CS docs and video tutorials, although it's a bit convoluted and the documentation is not very comprehensive. I gather Element14 is providing tech support for CS, just not sure exactly how.

More specifically, I have a question about importing AD files into Circuit Studio. I have existing AD files (*.PcbDoc and *.SchDoc) obtained elsewhere. I was able to import these into a new CS project, so that I now have *.CSPCBDoc and *.SchDoc in my CS project (the project directory includes PRJPCB and PRJPCBStructure files as well). I can open both schematic and PCB docs, so there seems to be no problem with the import. However, CS doesn't seem to know that the PCB file is connected to the SCH file -- when I do Compile from the schematic, nothing happens, and there is no "Update PCB" option in the Project menu. I made a small change to the schematic to test things out but have been unable to transfer the change to the PCB. Help?
