Altium, provider of design software and services for the development of electronic and mechatronic systems, will be holding two practical workshops highlighting the capabilities of Altium Designer at the Engineering Design Show in Coventry on 10 – 11 October 2012.
The workshops are free for visitors to attend but space is limited so if you are interested in attending one of the sessions below please register now via http://goo.gl/MYVSV.
Wednesday, 10th October 2012 — 11.15 - 12.00
ECAD/MCAD integration in the electronics design process. How to get the best out of both worlds?
Jörg Kaleita, technical account manager for EMEA, Altium Europe
This workshop demonstrates how to setup an electronic design environment with close ECAD/MCAD integration and how to use advanced 3D capabilities to avoid mechanical issues and costly errors like component placement violations, incorrect PCB shapes and more. Avoid having a PCB design come back from manufacturing only to find it won't fit into its box, and find a better way to accommodate complex mechanical constraints when laying out your PCB designs all in this workshop.
During this session delegates will learn:
• How to benefit from a 3D live view of a PCB during the design process.
• How to integrate 3D information into ECAD libraries and designs.
• How to link essential information from the MCAD domain into the ECAD design tool.
• How to use a 3D PCB editor to explore layer stack up, placing, routing and more.
• How to check the board against physical constraints.

How to get the right board manufactured without eliminating creativity
Jörg Kaleita, technical account manager for EMEA, Altium Europe
Managing the data produced in electronics design and preparing it for production is not a simple task. More often than not there are rigid rules in place that cause designers to search for 'workarounds' to get their creative work done. This workshop demonstrates the benefits of advanced data management capabilities which overcome these problems. These allow for creative design, sharing of ideas, re-use of successfully implemented building blocks, early visibility of data from the supply chain while ensuring data integrity from the start.
During this session delegates will learn:
• How to implement a data flow with high integrity.
• Different kind of libraries and how to use them best.
• How to integrate supply chain information into the electronics design process.
• How to 'design for reuse' and share knowhow across an organisation.
• How to release data from the electronics design space into the production space.
