Choosing a ferrite for use as a power material is easy right? Pick the lowest loss material at your operating conditions and you’re off to the races. Unfortunately, it isn’t always that simple. In this video we take a look (simplistically) at how adding an air gap can affect our core material selection. Specifically, we are evaluating EQ25 core sets in Fair-Rite’s 67, 80, and 79 materials. All core scenarios have been constrained to roughly the same inductance factor for this testing.
