Fair-Rite Products Corp., Your Signal Solution®, In this video we give a brief example of the effect wire length has on rated impedance values of a ferrite EMI suppression device. When characterizing a core, the wire length should be kept to a minimum to give a more accurate representation of the of the actual impedance that will be added to your circuit.

Choosing a ferrite for use as a power material is easy right? Pick the lowest loss material at your operating conditions and you’re off to the races. Unfortunately, it isn’t always that simple. In this video we take a look (simplistically) at how adding an air gap can affect our core material selection. Specifically, we are evaluating EQ25 core sets in Fair-Rite’s 67, 80, and 79 materials. All core scenarios have been constrained to roughly the same inductance factor for this testing.
