The Faculty of Computing and Engineering at Ulster University Northern Ireland offers industry-led, professionally recognised courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our students undertake 4-year degree programmes of study from BSc Hons Computer Science, BEng Hons Computer Engineering through to BEng Hons Electrical and Electronic Engineering. https://www.ulster.ac.uk/faculties/computing-and-engineering/schools

In Year 3, students undertake a period of paid placement in an industrial or academic setting e.g. Seagate Technologies (N. Ire), Sita (Ire), Citi Group (N. Ire), GE Oil and Gas. Placement is compulsory and seen as an integral part providing the student the opportunity to develop into a junior engineer/computer scientist.

Our students get access to programmes of study that have been developed with strong industrial collaborations. We have partnerships in both teaching and research which have helped to foster excellent employability opportunities for graduates. We have excellent job prospects in a wide range of computing and engineering industries with the majority of graduates finding employment within six months of graduation.

Sponsored scholarships and prizes further demonstrate the relevancy of our courses and the quality of our students. Students who wish to study abroad in year three, are supported in their applications, with Japan as the most recent destination added in 2016.

The School maintains a strong emphasis on pastoral care and the personal development of our students through small group tutorials and a tailored studies advice system. Numerous opportunities for personal development exist and include the University's own EDGE award, Tutoring in Schools and class representation.

Academic staff conduct world-leading research within the School's Intelligent Systems Research Centre (ISRC) and this research forms the foundation of undergraduate final year and postgraduate Masters and PhD projects. Research facilities include the pioneering cognitive robotics and functional brain mapping laboratories. The latest REF 2014 results for Computer Science rated 90% of Ulster's output as world-leading or internationally excellent, and place it in the top 25% of UK universities in terms of research power.

The reason we would like to win this competition is to enable us to get new equipment for teaching on Electrical\Electronic Eng. and Computer Eng. courses - oscilloscopes, function generators and power supplies. Ulster University has four key campuses. We wish to establish and grow the Magee Campus as the Engineering and Technology campus of Ulster University.

This makeover would be a significant upgrade to our existing provision and would set us on the path for establishing Magee as the Engineering and Technology campus; i.e. provide excellent teaching facilities to attract quality students.
