Locking Latches

Locking latches for signal cables have recently been approved by the Serial ATA Working Group. Positive locking latches ensure cables will stay connected. Molex offers latching cable receptacles in both straight and right angle versions. This ensures an easy transition when converting existing designs from Parallel ATA to Serial ATA. Locking PCB signal plugs are also available in both vertical and right angle versions and are backwards compatible. The extra plastic shroud used by the cable locking mechanism ensures the signal plugs are more robust than the original SATA design. The vertical plug will be available in both SMT and through-hole versions.

Overview

The SolarSpec™ Junction Box, designed for robotic-assembly of silicon photovoltaic systems, reduces assembly time and production costs for PV-panel manufacturers. Rugged and durable, IP67-sealed, SolarSpec™ DC connectors feature simple snap-lock mating and an internal locking mechanism for superior safety. They are designed for direct connection to solar junction boxes, field installations and PV grid wiring. In addition, SolarSpec™ DC double-insulated cable assemblies, with proven long life cycle and optimum weather resistance, meet the demands of harsh and outdoor solar wiring applications.

The first SolarSpec™ Junction Box from Molex is available for sale to global manufacturers of mono- and poly-crystalline (silicon) photovoltaic (PV) solar modules. Exclusively designed spring terminals with optional Solder Charge Technology™ allow the SolarSpec Junction Box Assembly to be attached to PV solar panels using robotic pick-and-place machines. An automated approach to production removes any process variation and risk-of-assembly errors, at the same time reducing costs associated with manual labor.

The in-house design and manufacture of SolarSpec™ pin and socket DC connectors and contacts enables Molex to deliver a superior quality, reliable and lower-cost solution to the market. Overview

Moving LEDs into an LED assembly on the top surface of a product produces a wider viewing angle, increased visual brightness, decreased light bleed, improved assembly and easier use of curved surfaces. LED-display assemblies indicate electronic status from on/off, stop/go, speed, alarm and other indications. Value can be found by creating a single LED assembly to replace light pipes or bulky and costly wire harnesses. Eliminating lightpipes where products have high numbers of indicators can significantly simplify mechanical designs and assemblies.

Molex display assemblies may be designed with a large numbers of indicators, and be combined with switches, backers, seven-segment LED-displays or LCDs. EXTreme ZPower™

EXTreme ZPower is a high-current, rigid, board-to-board and wire-to-board mezzanine style interconnect designed to transfer power loads from one PCB to another.

EXTreme ZPower connectors utilize a unique, dual interface which results in long-term reliability. The EXTreme ZPower connector allows 50.0A to be carried between parallel boards in 0.232 in², with less than .020 milliohms initial plane-to-plane resistance.

The EXTreme ZPower connector is press-fit into the PC base board. The PC top board is then screwed down on top of the EXTreme ZPower connector, forming a high-pressure interface. A unique, dual Hertzian contact design allows the screw to be installed without affecting the compliant-pin interface in the opposing PCB.

The rigid nature of this interconnect allows high-density PCB applications to benefit from real-estate savings, by employing
EXTreme ZPower in a dual role. EXTreme ZPower performs as both a high-reliability power connector and a durable stand-off, relieving the need for separate mechanical stand-offs in some applications.

EXTreme ZPower can also be used as an efficient, wire-to-board connector. This application is achieved through using standard wire-crimp, ring-lug terminals as the mating interface to the EXTreme ZPower screw-down terminal interface.

Molex continues its momentum of leveraging and migrating data communication technology to the automotive and transportation industries. HSAutoLink (alternatively referenced as USCAR USB) is the emerging high-speed data bus for vehicles. The data bus encompasses technologies used in other markets such as Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0), Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS), IEEE 1394b (FireWire*), FlexRay, eMOST and Ethernet.

Molex has packaged an economical and widely deployed five-pin shielded connection system from the consumer market into a more rugged connector system to meet automakers' mechanical requirements. The automotive industry-standard interface known as USCAR-30 supports USB 2.0 requirements for OEM system certification. The new, sturdy family of HSAutoLink connectors and cables will bring USB and other technologies into the information and entertainment systems in vehicles.

Cable assemblies utilizing the USB Standard A receptacle provide shrouded and latching capabilities for mounting in a vehicle, providing a consumer interface for vehicle passenger use. Following similar design principles, the HSAutoLink cabling system is specified to allow for positive latching and connection to a media module within the vehicle. This connection links with the media module allowing a digital-signal conversion to a vehicle's more traditional-analog signal, enabling the use of devices such as MP3 players, flash drives, portable navigation systems, etc.

Three primary cable configurations (Series 111005, 111014 and 111015), along with the keyed headers right-angle (Series 49616) and vertical (104004), will allow for various packaging options and offer integration engineers the opportunity to more easily design-in Molex's HSAutoLink connector system.

Molex has developed the first single-port PoE Plus PSE Integrated Connector Module in accordance with IEEE802.3at — a complete, plug-and-play solution to provide customers with a simplified design process and easy migration path from non-PoE to fully integrated PoE Plus capability. Based on the RJ45 jack, the new HyperJack™ Integrated Connector Module (ICM) from Molex is first on the market to integrate full PoE and PoE Plus Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) capability in a single-port.
	The 1x1 PSE module integrates the capability to power PoE-enabled devices with an output of up to 30Watts. IEEE802.3at PoE Plus compliant, the single-port Integrated Connector Module also supports the previous IEEE802.af standard. Previously, implementing PoE or PoE Plus for a single-port application required developing a discrete solution on the customer’s board using expensive controller silicon and reference designs. Power must be isolated from signal and significant design effort is required to protect the PCB from transients and emissions while achieving all IEEE802.3at requirements. By integrating the PoE circuitry inside the connector, Molex now provides the first drop-in, single-port, complete PSEICM solution. The footprint of the Molex single-port ICM is designed to optimize the separation distance of the signal and LED pins from the PoE circuitry, significantly reducing the complexity of PCB routing. The module has an external reset feature and capability to set maximum PoE class requirements (maximum power delivery allowed).
The Molex ICM is designed with through-hole pins for wave soldering but is also capable of withstanding lead-free solder reflow up to 260°C. The broad operating- temperature range and low heat dissipation makes this single-port ICM solution ideally suited for small applications without cooling fans. Overview
The Helieon® lighting system is the first plug-and-play sustainable solid state lighting module to integrate high-efficiency precision lighting with an easy-to-use socketed solution. Combining unmatched solid state lighting technology from Bridgelux* and engage-and-turn interconnect technology from Molex, the Helieon lighting system simplifies the process of designing, building and replacing luminaires.

Helieon enables flexibility in changing the look and feel of the lighting installation with the simplicity of replacing a light bulb. By emulating a traditional lighting socket, the Helieon system delivers an easy and familiar installation experience. Beam angle, color temperature and light output can all be easily changed or upgraded with the simple turn of the wrist, post-installation, without the complexity and expense of removing the luminaire. Product options are tailored to match light output levels of traditional light sources, delivering between 500 and 1,500 lumens under application conditions in halogen and fluorescent color temperature options. Helieon modules are available with narrow and medium flood-beam patterns that enable precision effects for a wide variety of lighting applications.
