My view of fracking is less critical than most. The Fracking process has proven to be incredibly useful in recovering oil and gas in areas that were too expensive to exploit. Its affect on the environment is very low, contrary to a lot of propaganda. It has only caused one ground water problem in sixty-five years and that incident occured during its early years.

If it was not for fracking, we would see even more deep water drilling, which we discovered has it hazards as the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico adequately demonstrated.

There are a lot of unexploited processing potential for coal that can make it very useful for the long time and yes, it can be used without introducing bad gases and material into the atmosphere.

While I applaud many of the Green energy sources, I have to point out that they are grossly inadequate to support the level of energy we need.

Plus I am greatly amused by the electric vehicle proponents who think they are saving the planet. I wonder if they realize that 50% of the electricity is coal based and generated at about a 20% efficiency. Those issues do not qualify as a sustainable future in my book.

As you look back in time, Humans will always exploit the cheapest methods to produce energy. They will not invest in alternatives until the costs go up. Fear not, there are still many sources of energy untapped world wide. Each will be used when the price is right.

I do have one bit of bad news for the Nuclear Fusion researchers, it will not work! My recent research has shown that Fusion is an endo-energetic reaction. That means that you will never reach the "break even" point where fusion will create more energy than it uses.

On the plus side, that same reseach has identified simple ways to "decontaminate" radioactive materials.

If the idea proves out, we can cleanly exploit Nuclear Fission from many millenia to come.

More will be revealed in my forth coming book "I Killed Schrodingers Cat."

As always, Science and Technology provides the answers to our questions when we get inspired to look.

DAB

RE: How fracking stacks up

Fracking seems like a desperate attempt to wring out the planet. Desperation leads to pursuing the goal “by all means necessary,” and crushing the environment in the process is the result.

Couldn't have put it better.

Lets put profit above everything else and the issues around water quality aren't our problem.

Unfortunately our 'clean green' government has their head so far up the oil industry, they can't see the damage this causes.

Mark
