Hello again Mr. Wong. Here is what I have, and I want it to control my inverter, turning it off when the power in my (solar charged) battery dips below 12v. Can you tell me exactly how to hook this up? Right now the battery is connected to two terminals at the back of the inverter. I assume that I should attache the power supply cables marked above to those terminals. But then which of the terminals do I use for the switch wires? Thanks so much if you can help with this.

I am an industrious DIYer with not much experience in this area looking for help figuring out how to

a) find the right relay and

b) hook it up properly (i.e. where is it connected in the system).

I have a solar PV system that charges a 12v deep cycle battery to run one small 35w (220v) pump.

The pump is plugged in to an inverter, of course.

I need a relay to turn off the pump when the voltage in the battery dips below 11.5v (give or take) and turn back on at 12v.

There is an alarm in the inverter that also kicks on when power to it is low.

Yes the relay can turn off the inverter.

THanks so much for the detailed help. It's the inverter that should get turned off by this, I think -- so would I connect to the inverter switch as you outlined?

I assume the green terminal block is the relay - connect the normally open pair of pins in series with your pump. The normally closed pin wouldn't be needed.

The pins for the other 2 connectors are marked under the card.

I assume one is for the DC power to run the circuit on the card and the other is the control voltage.

In your case I think they can be the same voltage - your battery voltage.

I think that would mean you connect V to V to your battery positive and G to G to battery negative.

I am not sure what the middle pins are for, but they may not be needed.

Adjust the hysteresis to 1 volt or whatever works better.

Adjust the threshold to 12 V.

If the threshold is ratiometric, the voltage to the detection circuit may need to be constant. This gets more complicated - you would need a regulator on the circuit supply voltage and ensure the threshold voltage is in the correct range for this supply.

Check around or ask the supplier for a more complete data sheet or application notes.

THanks... Looks promising. I don't think I understand how to wire it and the diagram isn't so clear. Any thoughts on that?

Looking for a relay for a lift.

I have taken out 2 relays for a lift which are damaged for my father. He really needs this lift to get about. I cannot find these parts for the life of me and im worried if i get another brand it will break the lift as a whole. I have 2 relays i need finding if anyone could help. Ive typed out what it says on the cases below.

Omron LY4

12VDC

Contact

1/2 HP 120VAC

12A 240VAC

COIL 12VDC

switch sign 10A 220V ~ AC1

10A 24V - DC1

Variable resistor sign 12V

OC3

I took it to mean a personal lift for helping a handicapped person get from the bed to a wheel chair or from a seated to a standing position like these:

Isn't it mandatory that a lift is serviced and checked by a certified person?

or is lift something different than elevator?

Hi Alex,

I am glad that dougw found a source for your relays. You have peaked my curiosity though as I have never seen two relays fail in the same piece of equipment simultaneously without there being a serious problem external to the relays themselves. Relays by their nature are very robust and do not fail easily. How have your relays failed? Do they have open coils or are the contacts damaged? What has led you to diagnose them as failed? You have probably figured this all out but just in case you haven't I would recommend testing the relay coils for continuity and if they are good using an external source of power to actuate them and check the continuity of the contacts. It might save you buying new relays only to find that there is a deeper problem.

Wow - do I feel like an idiot! I took one out of the store this morning to check any information printed on the relay - only to find it is *not* an Omron relay!

I would still be grateful if anyone has information on the Farnell part number 103818 - which is no longer in use - to help me identify the relay further.

Hi,

I am looking for a data sheet for an Omron relay, 24V coil, 30A SPST-NO, which used to be listed under Farnell part number 103818. I bought about 1000 of these relays from Farnell 25 years ago (!!!) and still have 200 in stock, and I now have a new project where I may be able to use them (slightly different usage conditions) and I would like to make sure I am operating within the devices specifications.

Hi,

The G6H was discontinued due to lack of sales, and also because of the old technology used to produce the parts. Therefore we suggest that customers move on to the next generation of signal relays for new designs.

In this case we would suggest looking at our G6SK-2F SMD relays - ( available via Farnell ). However please be aware that these are not drop in replacements.

Hi Nicole,

As far as I'm aware of these relay series they are copies of the NEC EA2 series.

So I checked and the NEC type was EA2-5tnu (EA2-5TNP is with paladium) also UL and CSA approved

The NEC series is now IMO Precision CONTROLS you might be able to still order through them as Farnell has the standard version EA2-5NU (FP1833109 or NS74R1567).

IMO should also be able to confirm the specs.
