Having an enclosed low noise fan and measuring just 152.4 x 101.6 x 49.0 mm (6 x 4 x 1.93 inches), the compact units have a power density of 13.9 Watts per cubic inch and a typical efficiency rating of 85%. It is believed that the FCM400 has one of the highest power densities of any 400 W power supply with medical safety approvals.

The FCM400 series can provide a higher peak power capability, up to 600 W for 0.5 seconds. This is important for applications that might draw a higher current for a short period, and enables the customer to specify the unit in place of a larger higher rated unit, therefore saving space and cost. Medical applications that might demand a high peak power include respiratory appliances, surgical equipment and hospital beds.

Accommodating the wide input range of 80 – 275 VAC, the family comprises 6 models with nominal outputs of +12, +15, +24, +28, +36, or +48 VDC. An output trim allows an adjustment of +/- 10% to suit non-standard voltage requirements and compensate for any voltage drops in the end system.

The series meets the electrical safety standards of both IEC 60601-1 / UL 60601-1 for medical equipment and IEC 60950-1 / UL 60950-1 for industrial and IT equipment. The series also complies with EN 55022 / EN55011 specifications for Class B conducted and Class A radiated emissions without the need of additional filtering components.

A +5 VDC 0.5 A always on standby output provides a supply for logic and memory functions without the need to design-in an additional voltage source. Remote on/off, AC OK and power fail signals provide basic monitor and control functions when integrating into the end system.

A 3 year warranty is provided as standard.

The FCM series is available from stock from Farnell or direct from XP Power.

Occupying a compact 4 x 6 inch footprint these single output forced air cooled units can continuously deliver the full output power across the wide temperature range of – 40 to + 50 degrees C and up to +70 degrees C with derating. With its high efficiency design and an almost entirely flat efficiency curve over the whole load range the supply requires just 12 CFM of forced air cooling. The GSP500 can also provide an output power of up to 180 Watts with convection cooling only.

Measuring 101.6 x 152.4 x 42.4 mm (4.00 x 6.00 x 1.67 inches) and packaged in a U channel chassis mount format, the GSP500 series is available in three single output models providing the nominal outputs of +12, + 24 or + 48 VDC. A +12 VDC / 0.3 A fan output is also provided. An integral end-mounted fan option (-EF) is available to order. Incorporating two 3-speed fans, the fan speed is determined by a combination of internal ambient temperature, input voltage and output load, and ensures acoustic noise is always kept to a minimum. In addition, the unit is designed so the fans will shut down under all input conditions where the load is minimal. This approach helps prolong fan life and also suits medical applications where the end-equipment is located close to patients.

The series conforms to the ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 medical 3rd edition safety standard and also complies with the internationally recognized IEC/UL/EN60950-1 safety standard for IT equipment. Protection features and control signals include power fail, inhibit, output good LED and remote sense. A +12 VDC fan supply is available on the U-channel version and a +5 VDC / 2 A always-on output is available to supply logic circuits. With convection cooling the standby output is still available and rated at 5 Watts.

The GSP500 has a peak power capability that can deliver up to 650 Watts for a maximum of 100 ms.

The GSP500 series is available from Newark, Farnell, element14, Digi-Key, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.

Suiting applications that require a slim profile, a high power density and low no-load power consumption, the ECE60 is available in either PCB mount, chassis mounted with screw terminals, or in a DIN rail mount configuration. Believed to have the smallest footprint and the highest power density of any 60 Watt power supply in the industry, the PCB mounted model measures 91.4 x 38.1 x 28.0 mm (3.6 x 1.5 x 1.1 inches) and has a power density of >10 Watts per cubic inch.

The range comprises eight models providing all the popular nominal output voltages from + 3.3 to + 48 VDC. A peak load capability allows up to 130% of rated output power to be available for up to 30 seconds in order to accommodate a higher start up current when powering a motor for example. Using this approach allows an engineer to avoid having to specify a more expensive higher rated power supply just to provide for an occasional peak load requirement. Also, with its no load power consumption of less than < 0.3 Watt and an high efficiency up to 89% the ECE60 series also ensures that end products meet the criteria of “green” energy saving initiatives.

The ECE60 meets EMC specification EN55022 for class B conducted and radiated emissions without the need for any additional filtering components. Complying with 3rd edition EN60601-1, ES60601-1, CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1, IEC60601-1 medical safety standards, this extremely compact power supply is believed to be the smallest device at this power rating available in the industry. The supply provides two means of patient protection (MOPP) between primary and secondary. Measuring just 62.0 x 30.7 x 24.4 mm (2.44 x 1.21 x 0.95 inches) for the open-frame pcb mount version, the EML15 occupies very little board space and also offers a very high power density for this type of supply of 5.3 Watts per cubic inch. With its Class II construction no earth connection is required, this being ideal where a reliable ground connection may not be available.

Eight single output models are available in the common nominal output voltages from +3.3 to + 48 VDC. A peak load capability allows the EML15 to provide 130% of rated output power in order to accommodate short-term high power loads. This approach allows designers to avoid having to specify a higher rated power supply and saves both extra cost and board space.

In addition to an open frame PCB mounting format other optional mounting packages are available, these include open frame chassis mount with connectors, and encapsulated models with either PCB mounting or screw terminals. A DIN rail mounting clip is also available for use with the encapsulated screw terminal package option.

The EML15 series is convection cooled and able to operate in most environments with a wide temperature range of – 25 degrees C to +70 degrees C. Derating is applied above +50 degrees C. No forced air flow or additional heat sinking is required.

The series meets the limits for Class B conducted and radiated EMC specifications of EN55022 without the need for any additional external filtering components.

The EML15 is available from Farnell, Newark & element14, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.

These compact 1U profile chassis mount supplies, measuring 203.0 x 127.0 x 40.64 mm (8.0 x 5.0 x 1.6 inches) can deliver the full 400 Watt output without the need for any cooling fans or forced air flow. The single output models also have a peak power capability that allows them to deliver 700 Watts for up to 0.5 seconds. This feature is ideal for accommodating applications that have momentary high start-up currents such as that of a motor, but removes the need for a higher rated, larger and more costly power supply being specified. Efficiency is typically 88% for single output models and 85% for duals.

The SDH400 single output range comprises nine models providing all the popular nominal output voltages from +3 to +60 VDC. Three dual output models are also available that offer output combinations of +5/+12 VDC, +5/+24 VDC or +12/+24 VDC. A trim function allows the user adjustment of output voltage in the range +/-5% of stated nominal to make up for load losses or to cater for non-standard voltage requirements. Power OK signal, remote on/off control, short circuit and overvoltage protection features are included as standard.

The full convection rating is available from 90-264 VAC input and the series operates over a wide temperature range of 0 to + 70 degrees C with no derating until +50 degrees C, meaning the SDH400 series will suit most global industrial power requirements without the need for de-rating.

The series meets safety approvals standard UL/EN 60950-1 and also conforms with EN55022 class B standard for conducted and radiated emissions.

Optional Molex input and output connectors are available in place of the standard screw terminal blocks.

The SDH400 series is available from Farnell, Newark, element14, Digi-Key, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.

By programming the output current a true constant current output is achieved down to almost zero volts, this being significantly better than the industry norm which is typically only down to 20-40%.

The HDS series comprises seven models covering the popular nominal outputs from +12 to +60 VDC. The output voltage for both series can also be manually adjusted +/- 5% by a trim function in order to make up for line losses. Both ranges also provide a user selectable standby output of 5 VDC / 0.5 Amp or 9 VDC / 0.3 Amp when the AC input is present.

The units include a comprehensive set of signals and controls such as remote on/off, AC OK, remote sense, PWM switching and overtemperature shutdown. A multifunction LED indicates the power supply status and gives warning notifications through use of different colours and blinking rates. In addition, I2C serial data connections provide for bi-directional data transmission between the power supply and external monitoring / controlling equipment.

A current sharing function provides for parallel operation of up to five power units for applications that might require a higher output power or for redundancy purposes. This also allows for system scalability of any future increased power requirements. Accommodating the full universal input voltage range of 90 - 264 VAC, the HDS800/1500 is suitable for world-wide use. They have an extended operating temperature range from -10 degrees C to +70 degrees C (+60 degrees C for HDS1500) with no derating until +50 degrees C. The series is approved to the internationally recognised safety specification IEC 60950-1 for ITE, industrial and commercial equipment. The units also comply with EN55022 Class B specification for conducted and radiated EMI.

Typical applications for the HDS800/1500 include use in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, battery charging and automatic test equipment.

The HDS800/1500 is available from approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.

XP Power today announced the CCB200 series of ultra efficient ''green'' 200 Watt single output AC-DC power supplies aimed at a broad range of medical and industrial applications. Suiting convection cooled applications that require a very high efficiency in an open frame design, the series has a typical efficiency of 94% and a maximum of 95%, with a flat efficiency curve across the entire operating load range above 20%. Compared to typical 200 Watt supplies, the CCB200, when delivering full power, generates 50% less dissipated heat, resulting in significantly lower component temperatures and therefore an increased product lifetime. The high efficiency has enabled the convection-cooled units to be packaged in an industry standard 76.2 x 127.0 x 36.32 mm (3.0 x 5.0 x 1.43 inches), usually used for forced-cooled power supplies of this rating. No load power consumption is less than 0.5 W.

The series conforms to the ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 medical 3rd edition safety standard and has approval for use in body floating (BF) applications where a patient applied part is used without the need for a further isolation stage. The CCB200 also complies with the internationally recognized UL/EN609501-1 safety standard for IT equipment.

Due to the high efficiency the CCB200 can deliver the full 200 Watt continuous output power over an extended temperature range from -20 to +70 degrees C without any derating, and up to +85 degrees C with derating. The industry norm is typically + 50 degrees C before derating applies.

The technology employed in the CCB200 ensures the ultra high efficiency rating is achieved from 90 VAC input, unlike current products in the market that have lower efficiencies at low line and therefore have to specify derating. The full operating range of the CCB200 series is 80 - 300 VAC, with full power available from 90 - 264 VAC.

A total of 5 models are available providing the popular nominal outputs from + 12 to +48 VDC. A user trim function provides output voltage adjustment of -4 to + 5% of stated nominal in order to accommodate load losses.

Protection features and control signals include power fail signal, remote sense and remote on/off.

The CCB200 is available from approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.

All of the formats apart from the top fan mounted version are less than 39.9 mm (1.6 inches) high. A variable speed fan is used to reduce audible noise at lower load conditions and extend fan life in the –E and –F models. For applications without a fan or forced air flow, the units can operate with convection cooling up to 220 W for the single output models.

With a peak power output of up to 700 Watts for up 0.5 s, the SDL400 is ideal for applications that might have a higher power demand for short duration loads such as starting up a motor. This capability saves designers from having to specify a larger, more expensive power supply to satisfy this requirement.

Single output models are available with the popular nominal outputs between +12 and +48 VDC, as well as both a +54 and +60 VDC output variant. Dual output models have a +5 VDC output in combination with a +12, +24 or +48 VDC or a +12 / +24 VDC model. The output voltage V1 can be manually trimmed +/-5% with the dual’s V2 output tracking by the same percentage of adjustment.

The SDL400 series has an operating temperature range from 0 to +50 degrees C, and with derating up to +70 degrees C. Overvoltage, overload and short circuit protection are standard features. Additionally, all models have remote on/off, power good and fan fail signals. The units meet EN55022 class B conducted and radiated emissions. Safety agency approvals are per UL 60950-1, CSA 22.2 No. 60950-1 and EN 60950-1 standards.

A low leakage current option (500 µA) is available by adding –L to the part number.

The SDL400 is available from Farnell, element14, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and come with a 3 year warranty.

XP Power today launched the first edition of its new style short form product catalogue. The full colour 56 page Power Supply Selector guide uses an extremely informative yet visually pleasing method of presenting XP Power’s comprehensive line-up of AC-DC power supplies and DC-DC converters. Key specifications for each product range is provided in an easy to follow layout, and the task of initial range selection is simplified by the use of index pages containing thumbnail images of each series organized by type and output power rating. The complete range of XP Power’s portfolio is represented with AC-DC units covering the output range of 5 to 3000 Watts, and DC-DC converters from 0.25 to 600 Watts.

Recent product additions covered in the guide include, what is believed to be, the world's smallest 5 W and 10 W AC-DC encapsulated PCB mounted modules, open-frame power supplies with efficiencies up to 95%, and convection cooled power supplies providing up to 200 Watts output from an industry standard 3 x 5 inch package. Also detailed are power supplies having medical safety approvals, available in the range from 15 W to 2500 W. Another recent product development included in the guide are DC-DC converter ranges that can accommodate the extremely wide range of input voltages commonly encountered in rail transportation applications.

Throughout the guide a legend key is used to identify those products that have a medical safety standard version available and, for both component and external power supplies, those that meet the stringent energy efficiency standards for no-load power and efficiency. A section within the guide summarizes the main requirements of XP Power's Green Power specification, based around the Energy Efficiency Level V standard.

Introductory sections of the guide highlight XP Power's expertise in the healthcare, industrial and technology markets. The development of engineered power solutions are also detailed where applications cannot be fulfilled with a standard product or where integrated products are required. Using XP Engineering Services in this way can provide a fast, low risk, low development cost alternative to designing a specialist power supply from scratch.

The Power Supply Selector guide is available now and can be downloaded at www.xppower.com. A print copy can be requested online or by contacting a local XP Power office directly.

XP Power also provides power supply selection applications for the iPhone and Android-based devices. These are available from www.xppower.com.
