You're welcome and thanks for attending. I wanted to start off simple since folks are at different skill levels.

I think seperate session just for the Gertboard would be appropriate as it is highly configurable... and thus was a bit of a head scratcher for me at first. The on board ATMega328 opens up a lot of possiblities with having high-level code on the Pi communicate with Arduino sketches running locally on the Gertboard. I chatted with Gordon Henderson over email who developed the capability for the chip to be programmed over the SPI bus from the Pi.

He is also working on intergrating the Gertboard with his WiringPi library:

fyi - just found out there is WiringPiFace https://projects.drogon.net/raspberry-pi/wiringpiface/ for using the WiringPi library with the PiFace.
