I am using this card with Raspberry Pi 2 B, using the package 2015-02-16-raspbian-wheezyW_CL, and it works great! I am enjoying my 96x24 and 192x24 files natively, and I am using JRiver MediaServer's DSP processor to upsample everything else to 192x24 Although the install was slightly tricky, I found the documentation to be easy to follow, even for a Raspberry newbie like me. It worked perfectly the first time, and then I simply installed JRiver over it, which also worked perfectly the first time.

Note: JRiver MediaServer is not officially supported on this platform yet. The version I installed is a beta version.

Now if someone has some advice on how to add support for a TFT display without overwriting my current kernel, I would be very appreciative.

RE: Cirrus Logic Audio Card 2015 Update

I rated the cirrus card with one star on amazon [View:/resized-image/__size/16x16/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-24f0050f-c55e-46bb-93cb-df7ee0e297d6/contentimage_5F00_3890.png:16:16]

Installing the kernel in Ubuntu Mate broke Mouse keyboard input and network. [View:/resized-image/__size/16x16/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-24f0050f-c55e-46bb-93cb-df7ee0e297d6/contentimage_5F00_1577.png:16:16]

RE: Cirrus Logic Audio Card 2015 Update

As a (long long time ago) former apps engineer, I'll give element14 a little latitude on this problem. They have to work with Cirrus, and the volume of sales of the RasPi are inconsequential from a semiconductor company's perspective (millions of sales are small beans). That said, it would be really nice to get a bit of feedback from element14. Are they working on this? Do they have driver code from Cirrus? Can the open source community help?

RE: Cirrus Logic Audio Card 2015 Update

Dear Jonny Whyte,

So... Ughhhh...

Previously I was using a Debian image with Darkice and Icecast2, to stream live audio to a remote "radio" station website.

I was using an external USB sound device [Behringer UCA202] I was getting great results in stereo at 44,100.

Seeing the Cirrus Logic card my eyes almost popped out of my head with excitement. I'm not sure of the maximum rate I could stream with the Raspberry Pi, but I'm sure that the Cirrus Logic card has less "noise floor" than the Behringer UCA202 USB device.

I have tried the Cirrus Logic image for the card, works real nice, very impressive sound with my headphones, however, trying to get Darkice and Icecast2 to stream from the card is not so easy, I've failed in trying to achieve this. Not particular for wanting the GUI as more interested working headless - just switch on and stream on the 3G network.

I have tried to compile a kernel - from links on how to do this here (https://github.com/CirrusLogic/rpi-linux/wiki/Building-the-code).

It breaks and I can't compile - even after installing Ubuntu on a spare PC - This could be my newbie greenness though!

Trying to add Darkice and Icecast2 with other MP3 libraries gives errors, and I know that I can't update else the kernel is over written, dang!

What I am after is a simple solution so that I can switch on the Pi (no need for the GUI as I'm totally portable), start Darkice and Icecast2 and stream audio from the Cirrus Logic card as a MP3 stream (for the on-line radio station), I am at a total loss in what to do about it, or if this is actually possible to do yet, with the card?

I look quite regular for solutions for this, and have not found any yet. For now, am not able to use the new Raspberry Pi that I purchased with the Cirrus Logic audio card, I can still use my Old Raspberry Pi & Behringer UCA202 - but it's very disappointing in the mean time.

Alan

RE: Cirrus Logic Audio Card 2015 Update

HI Jonny,

The pi 2 is now on sale. Forgive the slight rant.

As you were. I did complete the working mixer. I, then, decided to update to the latest Cirrus software.

Alsamixer is significantly different and several of the controls no longer report the actual values set in amixer. The card now appears correctly as hw:1. The Master control is gone and the only way to adjust the playback volume is using the panel widget. It was better when all of the key controls were available in amixer. Finally, the driver is broken! Muting and unmuting the 'HPOUT1 Digital Switch' (aka the headset mute switch) brings up the Mute warning in the Panel icon. It makes no difference whether the headset is connected to the playback path from the Raspberry Pi (AIF1RX) , or not.

I have tested this with both my mixer revised to work with the new driver and manually setting the values in amixer. I have not actually tried out the latest mixer with sounds (although I have checked that all of the settings are correctly set in amixer), but it looks as though the headset switch must always be on in order to play the Raspberry Pi back through any of the outputs. This is a significant error that was not found in the previous driver.

I'm going to put things on hold in the hope that, when the Raspian kernel has the driver coded in by default, Cirrus will have got their act together re the driver.

BTW, the mixer is written in Python and Tkinter. If you can find a way for me to get it to you, you are welcome to use it (GPL3).

RE: Cirrus Logic Audio Card 2015 Update

Hi,Jonny,

Good news. I am not about the support for the Wolfson card, because I don't have one but planning to buy the new version, the Cirrus audio card for Raspberry B+. I just passed through the WM5102 datasheet and I must tell that it looks really awesome! What I am worried about is the quality of card documentation (very poor, with a lot of errors, even in the pin assignments) and the lack of support, as I see it. Can you tell me where are you expecting the feedback from the users, what you take into account? Because there was no reaction to our Is the Raspberry B+ GPIO passed through with the Cirrus Audio card? thread, which discusses some basic issues regarding the card pinouts and documentation. The community is very kind and there are some nice people who give very good insights and contributions, but this is not enough. Would you be so kind as to take a look and give some competent comment? A few words would be reassuring. Otherwise we have the feeling to speak and work in vain.

Many thanks,

 Zsolt

RE: Cirrus Logic Audio Card 2015 Update

This is most helpful to know. There is an enormous amount of angst on the internet relating to the Wolfson card for the Raspberry PI model B. It is wonderful to know that the software for the 2 cards is and will be the same. I managed to get mine working with the download for the model B card, but it would be great if there was some sort of homogenization relating to the two cards. It is immensely confusing and until I found this post I had no idea there were similarities between the cards.
