For the thumbnail image, what would the best size and/or aspect ratio be?

I have created a square thumbnail, but the blog options page shows it in a long rectangle.. is a long rectangle preferred for (say) twitter, facebook etc? Or should I go with the square?

I can easily make my jpg file into a long rectangle if desired, since the square jpeg happens to have two long rectangles stacked on top of each other.. I could just place them side-by-side instead.

What is better for thumbnails?

Thanks for posting this project, creating the examples, and documenting everything so well. This is an area where I don’t have a great deal of understanding so building it and experimenting could be very helpful.
