Maybe relevant: while working on a roadtest, I happened to stumble over a white paper that Harting did on the Pi's fitness for industrial applications.

Excellent for prototyping in industry related setting, usable with limitations in a production environment. Not suitable for real-time motor control.

They explain the criteria on which they based the scores. The document also has a breakout page that elaborates on the Pi in industrial context.

Hi Shabaz,

Great write-up and the enclosure seems to be good value. What are your thoughts on a cooling fan? I have one pi that routinely downloads large files as part of its duties and overheated before I put it n an enclosure with a fan.

Interesting case. Very good description of its use. Newark doesn’t seem to carry it but other US distributors do. I’ll have to get one to try.
