Can you tell me if PyCharm terminal support has changed?

I moved away from using PyCharm to using Visual Studio Code (VSC) because of terminal support. Running the python script in Pycharm was only supported in the license version of the product and not in the educational version. Opening an external terminal window to run the script was the norm. After discovering I could click a button and execute the python scripts from the window I was editing the script, bam I was motivated to move to VSC.

I miss the familiarity of pycharm. VSC has more overhead but to get the feature to run a script inside the editing window was great. I have perfected the process supporting VSC on a Raspberry Pi. I'm to entrenched to move now.

Just curious.

Got Pycharm 2021.2 working ok thank you. And Terminal works good without the above mods. Using local New Os Bullseye(32bit) on pi4. But the following comments come up :-

1st

Although described in above comments how to remove this comment

Unfortunately, JetBrains does not officially support native file watcher for this architecture. Please follow these instructions to compile it yourself.

How can you improve file changes sync which it says may be slow?

2nd

Please consider switching to the bundled Java runtime that is better suited for the IDE (your current Java runtime is 11.0.13+8 by Raspbian at '/usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-armhf').

Shall I do this?

However the following still appear in Event Log (don't they also for you?)

External file changes sync may be slow ... native watcher not supported

Consider Built in Java

BTW, I followed basically the same set of steps for installing IDEA's IntelliJ Java IDE and it worked fine.

I recently purchased a RPi4 and running 32bit OS and Eclipse no longer support a 32bit IDE. There is a 64bit OS for RPi currently undergoing development, along with a version of Eclipse but at present both seem a bit fragile. Hence my reason for trying to see if IntelliJ worked.

Hi, i just bought raspberry pi 4 and followed your guide to install pycharm, thou im getting this error when i try run ./pycharm.sh

No JDK found. Please validate either PYCHARM_JDK, JDK_HOME or JAVA_HOME environment variable points to valid JDK installation.

I run sudo apt-get install openjdk-11-jdk as you suggested but it didnt help at all, can you please advise me ? would very appreciate it

I don't have many people playing with Pycharm on a Raspberry Pi. So I thought this would be an appropriate forum to ask a related question. Does Pycharm support remote debugging to a Pi. What I mean is, running Pycharm on a workstation that connects, and runs code on the Pi?

I have done what I describe manually, by opening a terminal window in Pycharm and copying files to the Pi and then running them. I found this functionality is automated in Visual Studio Code and as a result moved away from Pycharm. I still keep Pycharm around and really wished there was the remote capability.

I fire up VS Code on my Ubuntu workstation. Call a remote session to my Pi IP and after some backend negotiations I'm sitting on the Pi using VS Code editor running and testing Python code.

Do you have anything you could share about Pycharm?

Hi all.

My setup:

Manjaro ARM Linux (Kernel Linux 5.4.51-2-MANJARO-ARM (aarch64))
Raspberry Pi 4 4GB
PyCharm 2020.2 (Community Edition)

I followed "Fix For Terminal not working" procedure. However, I still have a problem with my terminal:

Cannot open Local Terminal
Failed to start [/bin/bash, --rcfile, /opt/pycharm-community-2020.2/plugins/terminal/jediterm-bash.in, -i] in /home/superadmin/GitHub/Build_Backend_REST_API_with_Python_and_Django

Having trouble following your instructions for the 2020.2 version of PyCharm. When I go to the /bin folder, there is no pycharm.sh file in that folder. Can you provide any guidance? Searched the entire installation folder, that file is not found anywhere. Thanks.
