Would a Raspberry Pi + Pic32/Arduino powered laser tag system be a fun project to work on?

Any suggestions you wanna give me?

Let me know image

In my mind the Raspberry Pi would handle connection to the master server, and with a ChipKit Pi I could manage the I/O (IR, LED's, etc)

Still planning, though, once I have thought about it more I will post back.

Are you envisioning the user (player?) wearing the pi? You could control the peripherals with the Pi itself without another device.

The current plan is that the Pi is encased in the gun, and that is connected to the armor (Considering there are LEDs and IR recievers on the Shoulders, Chest and Back)

Yeah, I'm getting it now. So you might have the pi in the gun wired to the armor, with another micro controller ( PIC or Arduino) controlling the sensors. Yes, that could be quite a bit of fun. Keep us posted

After I have completed my review for the Ultimate Raspberry Pi bundle roadtest (yeah, I am a tester image) this will be my next project.

Thanks for your suggestions so far!

It certainly might be more feasible now that the Pi Zero has been released. Though I still don't see what might be achieved with the Zero that a simple micro controller couldn't handle.
