Hi Thomas, You might want to check to see if the cartridge on the record player is magnetic or crystal. Most of the less expensive turntables and changers used a piezo crystal cartridge that put out enough voltage to drive a non pre-amplified input. The magnetic cartridges usually had to have a preamplifier either internal to the amplifier or as a separate unit. If you can tell me the name on the cartridge and describe it I might be able to tell you which you have.
