Though, you may encounter a couple of hiccups.

As commented in the thread on the pi-hole discourse here: https://discourse.pi-hole.net/t/raspberry-pi-os-bookworm-is-out-now-pihole-error-unsupported-os-detected-debian-12

You may get an error saying "Unsupported OS Detected, Debian 12". To get around this you will need to use the "unsupported" modification in the installer and it will run fine:

"curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | PIHOLE_SKIP_OS_CHECK=true sudo -E bash"

For an update, run:

"PIHOLE_SKIP_OS_CHECK=true sudo -E pihole -up"

Another hiccup you may experience, if you do a fresh install of Pi-Hole on Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm rather than an upgrade/update of the OS to bookworm is that dhcpcd is not installed by default, instead it uses Network Manager. This can be problematic if you're using Pi-Hole as a dhcp server for your network.

Running "raspi-config" should allow you to change the default network manager, but you can also do the following:

sudo apt-get -y remove network-manager

sudo apt-get -y install dhcpcd

sudo apt-get -y autoremove

sudo apt-get -y clean

Which will remove network manager, reinstall dhcpcd and remove any packages remaining and clean up afterwards.

If you want to check if Pi-Hole has updated sufficiently to support the operating system you can run:

dig +short -t txt versions.pi-hole.net @ns1.pi-hole.net

You can view more details here: Raspberry Pi 5 Pinouts including GPIO for the 40 Pin Header

The key difference with the Raspberry Pi 5 is that it now uses the RP1 Peripheral Controller. The first 28 GPIO on the RP1 is dedicated to the 40-pin header and matches nearly the same or similar functionality as on the previous Raspberry Pi.
Time will tell if there will be further official support for the Raspberry Pi 5 and Windows.

Can the Raspberry Pi 5 run Windows?

Previous models of the Raspberry Pi had a version of Windows - is Windows supported on the Raspberry Pi 5?

Do existing HATs fit on top of the Raspberry Pi 5 Active Cooler and Heatsink?

To get the full functionality and speed from the Raspberry Pi 5 it will need active cooling and a heatsink, how does this work with existing HATs?

RE: Do existing HATs fit on top of the Raspberry Pi 5 Active Cooler and Heatsink?

It is possible with an appropriate spacer, or extender on the GPIO header, and 15mm standoffs you can stack HATs on top of the active cooler and heatsink appropriately.

How many displays can the Raspberry Pi 5 handle at once?

With so many connections available, how many displays could the Raspberry Pi 5 handle?

RE: How many displays can the Raspberry Pi 5 handle at once?

Available on the Raspberry Pi 5 you potentially have:

2x HDMI

2x DSI

1x SPI

1x Composite Video

So maybe, depending on how you have it setup, you could have up to 6 displays at once. However, that will take a lot of bandwidth and may limit the available resolutions or refresh rate at a given time. Sounds like a good project challenge.

RE: What are the dimensions and sizes of the Raspberry Pi 5?

Yes, the components on the Raspberry Pi 5 have moved around. Notably the gigabit ethernet port has 'swapped sides'. The location of the ribbon connector for the DSI and CSI ports have moved, and the types of ribbon cables that connect to them have also changed. The PoE header has also moved and there are additional connectors.

/etc/systemctl/logind.conf can be used to define what happens when the button is pressed. On the Pi OS lite image it'll shut down by default. On the full desktop image the shutdown dialogue will be displayed, and if you press it again, it will shut down.
