I'm using an old Galaxy S4 I had as the display.

I didn't use motion but I really do require audio to be a part of this to make it practical, as it saves staring at a silent screen.

I have a nano USB mic attached and would really like the audio stream to play over wifi to the S4, so a audio and visual "proper" baby monitor so to speak.

Any pointers anywhere how to enable this etc please? Except that our baby is a 3 year old Great Dane.

We'd had a complaint that he was barking constantly when left alone, and being concerned about him, I set up an old Android phone running IP Web cam to keep an eye on him. Obviously I wasn't going to just sit watching and listening to him when I was out, but I came across SoX. It's not easy to understand the documentation on how to use the silence filter, but this post was a big help The SoX of Silence

I have a wrapper script running on the Pi which basically monitors when when both myself and my wife go out (mobile phones no longer pingable on the network), and then starts Sox...

sox http://192.168.1.10/audio.wav /mnt/usb/audio.mp3 silence 1 1.0 2% 1 30.0 2% : newfile : restart

Then when either of us return home it kills SoX, and send me a mail listing all the mp3 files and audio lengths it recorded. We discovered that he'll maybe bark for a minute or 2 at most, when someone knocks at the door or posts something. Hardly something to be concerned about!

What would be nice is to instantly alert me when SoX detects audio and starts recording. Not really figured out how to do that at the moment. Any ideas?

RE: NoIR V2 - Video Streaming Baby Monitor

I did investigate extensively using audio with a cheap USB microphone. I could get it to work, however it was completely separate from the RPi Cam Interface package. The hardest part with streaming video from a Raspberry Pi Camera with audio is getting them perfectly in sync. With a baby monitor that may not be very necessary.

If you just wanted an alert when the sound reached a certain threshold it would be easy, but if you wanted a live feed of video and sound you'd have to use a different method of streaming. I know VLC can do this. With the original Raspberry Pi it had extremely poor performance, but a Pi 3 should manage it no problem.

It's a shame the RPi Cam Web Interface doesn't support audio of any kind. It'd be great if it was integrated in the future.

Triggering alerts with audio also wouldn't be tough, just execute the python script over a certain level of volume.

There are also temperature sensors that can interface with a Raspberry Pi over the GPIO pins. I don't think it'd be very difficult to have it refresh every minute or so to update a notification on a phone with the current temperature.

I hope this helps!

RE: NoIR V2 - Video Streaming Baby Monitor

I am looking for a solution like this but with the addition of reaction to audio in the human voice range too. Have you thought about expanding the NoIR solution like this?
