Hey I have a question, I'm doing a rude goldberg project and my main goal is to pour a glass of water. Do you have any idea how I could program that onto a raspberry pi and have it turn on with a push of a button? Imagine a water jug being released, like the liquor in your video, into a glass.

Any chance you could put this up on GitHub? I'd like to try expanding this to mix up paints on demand from orders sent to it, wondering if you or anyone else is up for that.

Brings back memories of my first job in High School in the early '70s: stock boy at a bar/liquor store/restaurant. They had a system where bottles on the walls of a little room off the bar fed into tubes that ran out to the bar (one of my jobs was replacing the empties). At the bar all the bartender had to do was press a button for a particular drink; the appropriate booze would be dispensed automatically AND the drink rung up on the cash register. I never did get to see what kind of electronics controlled that system. But given the technology of that time I bet it took up a little more room and cost quite a bit more than a Pi and a few supporting parts.

I guess if you have to have a hobby, building a mixed drink dispenser is as good as any.

I am curious about your motivation, other than the obvious.

I've managed to watch the video several times now.

I've been 'instructed' that I'm not allowed one.

The T5 belts are available in long lengths, so you could use that to move the traveller.

I'm busy making a 1.5m version based on this, and using a 2m belt.

The DC motor is on the carriage, but it could be at the end and move the belt, and is quiet enough for video.

For the dispenser, you should be able to adapt the conventional ones that have Tee bar, and make the door locker pull up on them

A magnet fitted where each bottle is, and detected by a hall effect might work for position and installed.
