I believe the letter M is a typo in that filename.

like "servername.comf" should probably be "servername.conf"

Forgive me if I've missed something obvious, I'm permanoob and incompatible with conventional teacher/student classroom dynamic.
My comment is based on context, not prior knowledge.

The way I did it was

cd /etc/apache2/conf.d

then

nano servername.comf

Well as a newb to any flavor of Linux, II got as far as: (So close to the end too!)

"Next, create an extra file servername.comf in the /etc/apache2/conf.d. You can use nano to create the file - i.e"

And I was told that the directory didn't exist, nor would the PI allow me to create one. I even tried to sudo first in the command line.

So where did I screw up?
