Introduction
There are lots of nice character and graphic displays, but sometimes all that’s needed is to be able to show a few digits.
I remember when the first 7 segment displays arrived.

They were so useful for sending status messages without a full I/O terminal connected.

FYI, you can also used smoked plexiglass to filter the LED's if they are too bright.

RE: Easy 7-Segment Displays

Excellent work! I will have to look into these ND4 filters, thanks for sharing! Perhaps you could add a small note saying this is for a common-cathode versus common anode. Or perhaps have the common rail jumper selectable from gnd and 3v3 if you replace the npn with a pnp.

RE: Easy 7-Segment Displays

Very good PCB layout. I'm trying to learn how to do PCB layouts. Just now I was starting my first design to have a PMOD module with two 4x7 segment displays for use with the Digilent Arty S50 board.

I'm using EasyEDA.

I can see that this could be very helpful to people wanting to try this out.

In college I build a digital timer based on 7-segment displays and BCD counters. Back at that time I used a lot of surplus/reclaimed parts and built PCBs using resist pens and acid bath. This design looks so much cleaner!

RE: Easy 7-Segment Displays

The filter makes a huge difference.
