Power Integrations' RDK-928 Reference Design Kit is a novel 60W USB PD 3.0 power supply circuit designed to increase the efficiency of flyback power converters for power supplies. The RDK-928 circuit is a combination of power technologies that include the INN4073C InnoSwitch 4-CZ Flyback Switcher and the CPZ1062M ClampZero Active Clamp IC and offers a 5V, 9V, 15V, or 20V output at 3A. It also incorporates the input capacitor volume-reduction capabilities of the MIN1072M MinE-CAP IC.

The RDK-928 comes equipped with a host of features that include zero voltage switching in both CCM and DCM operating conditions, the benefits of a secondary-side control with primary-side regulation, and the fact that it is insensitive to transformer variation. It also meets DOE6 and CoC v5 2016 efficiency requirements and offers output overvoltage and overcurrent protection, along with integrated thermal protection. It's small 1.77" x 1.77" x 0.63" footprint makes it ideal for compact power supplies for any number of applications, such as robotics, wearables, mobile devices and more.
The element14 Community is currently looking for volunteers to roadtest the RDK-928, with enrollment ending on December 5, 2024. This would be ideal for those building their own USB PD 3.0 power supplies; however testing the module with other projects is also welcome. All selected candidates are expected to review the RDK-928 and document their experiences with text, images, video or other media so that others can follow along and understand all that is involved with utilizing the module. Good luck and happy building!
